Intermittent gearbox or engine problem
« on: 03 July 2012, 19:18:54 »

right then, this has happened a few times since owning Katie, sorry for the crude explanation, right here goes......................

press unlock button, doors unlock, open door, sit in, put key in ingnition, turn key, engine comes alive  :P , put my foot on the brake, lift the lock lever up on gear selector, move it into D, take the handbrake off, take my foot of the brake, car starts to move, i drive for a while, come up to some traffic lights, press the brake peddle, car stops, keep my foot on the brake, move the gear selector to N, foot still on brake, lights change, move gear selector to D, car starts to pull, revvs drop, then STALL???? why? has happened to me only a couple of times but thought i might ask. Any ideas?

Will be worth seeing what it's like after a full breather clean

Saying that it's a 2.2 DBW, so not such a common issue on these.

I have a basic code reader here in Reading, so not too far from Newbury..

I always leave the car in D, never use N.  If the car is stationary long enough to consider using N, I turn the engine off and select P.  What happens if you leave it in D at the lights.

Elite now gone.  Bought an X-Type 4x4.  If there had been an Omega 4x4 I would have bought that instead.  We really liked the Omega, but I wanted 4x4.

had a simalier problem a few weeks ago with mine it turned out to be rubbish fuel have gone back to using either tseco 99 or sainsburys 98.   car is all happy again, yes i know its a bit more but car runs smoother and is more responsive. car dosnt like shell regular unleaded.
i think i might have a car with an addiction to high octane fuels ;D

@alank46 - I only put it in neutral if im sat in traffic for a long time, otherwise it stays in drive  :P ( also, the engine can be turned off and back on in N, if need be )

@biggriffin - I always use Tescos fuel, as its just round the corner from me. It only gets something different if ive gone away, i.e holiday, day trip out.

It could be bad fuel, who knows. p.s i always keep the tank full to the brim, since ive owned it, the fuel gauge has never gone down past half way  ;D so i dont think it could be caused by sucking crap through from the bottom of the tank.
