watched most of it - it is true that more people need to be prepared to give up time to the elderly that need extra support. We are all too busy with other things unfortunately - which should not be an excuse - but we seem to be in a mindset today which suggests that the unfortunate elderly should have better provided for themselves earlier in life.

Just travelled back from Truro after watching mother in law die on Tuesday after a 4 day rapid decline but luckily she was in a loving environment with really good nursing home staff and family support. She has had so much pain in her life which is mercifully now at an end - I will not go into detail but you question many things about end of life medical strategies.

Off to Manchester tomorrow to deal with my parents and Aunt in various stages of old age with few visitors but good carers.

i watched it.....i am 68 and cant believe that we all can and maybe end up like that....such a shame and a disgrace to allow some of the older generation go through all that after all they have contributed to this country for all there working life.....do you know that it is a fact that nearly 30% of people who pay their national insurance stamp for their health and pension never reach retiring age because they die.......so where has all their contributions gone to...and yet this goverment want you the younger ones to pay more and work longer.....there are not enough jobs for the young now and even less if you have to stay in your jobs for longer....sheere madness  :'(

yep that's the way insurance works - some people pay more than they claim, some people lay less than they claim.  That will always be the case with national insurance, pensions, car insurance etc

there are seperate issues of course, whether it is good value, whether money is wasted, whether the younger generation are funding the older because the older generations money has been spent.  That's a very long topic
