Air-Con question. 2002 Omega
« on: 05 July 2012, 17:36:05 »

Hi, I've just had my Omega re-gassed at a local ATS garage he checked the system for leaks before filling with gas and said the air-con was completely empty but did pressure check it with hydrogen, After filling it up it was lovely and cold working as it should but when i opened the bonnet when i got home around 15 miles i heard a leak sort of sound it was fairly strong then went down then i started the engine after 10min or so and left running for awhile and was working fine same again when i switched the car off high sound of pressure leak but went down, Is this normal I have no idea as its the 1st time ive had a car with air-con and 1st to fill up at a garage etc ??  :-\

Hi,

Mine doesn't do that?

I've recently has my air con regassed and the chap that did it said the valves sometimes work loose. Maybe that's your issue?

Thanks
Mike

Found this on google,

Listen to your refrigerator sometime. Put your ear next to it. Lots of gurgling and hissing even after it turns off. Gas is compressed, condensed to a liquid, allowed to evaporate (expansion valve (or orifice in less complex systems than the Fit's), probably the source of hissing), and the cycle repeats.[/size]As long as it cools, it's normal.[/glow]

keep an eye on the temperature, I had a leak where a plastic clip had worn down the alloy pipe next to the low pressure port.

I bought an elec thermometer to keep an eye on temp

If the gas was completely empty it must have come out of somewhere....

These ac systems can only test for leaks in half of the system, only way to really tell is uv dye and a uv light in the refrigerant..

Air-con is definitely leaking as its just blowing outside air temp now and doesn't have that nice fresh cold air smell it had when it was topped up....
I am at a loss what to do.
