Could be a number of things. If you are near Marks DTM, he has a Tech2 that can read the alarm system and tell you what is causing it.

Although the common causes are:
Bonnet switch
Rear pane break sensor (estates)
Powersounder failing

Unplug bonnet sensor

Is it an estate?

I'm guessing that you didn't follow the procedure for battery removal:
1. loosen nuts on battery terminals
2. switch on ignition
3. wait till warning lights go out (except oil & battery)
4. switch off again & walk briskly to the front of the car & remove negative lead from battery (you have about 20 seconds to disconnect the battery lead otherwise the alarm will sound next time you reconnect it)
