I saw this bloke on the TV yesterday morning and after watching for a while he came out with a brilliant quote. He said "If you rob a bank you'll go to prison but when the banks rob you the directors get paid millions in bonuses" He's decided after being told he can't to open a bank and I for one hope he pulls it off :)

Good quote.

I watched the first TV episode. I liked the way he assessed people. Like bank managers used to in days gone by, personal service, visit business and get a feel for it. Occasionally he might get a duff loan but he should succeed if he gets the ability to take deposits.

I really hope he succeeds!!  :y  He's challenging the establishment and they don't like it!!  ::)

I saw the episode where he went down to London to seek advice and was told by an elderly banker that traditionally to get into banking it depended on what school you went to and what your parents did....  >:(

Take it from me,thats crap. Its easier if you have contacts, like any other job,but if your determined and hard working enough you can work your way from the back office onto the trading desks. ;)

It will  interesting to see if he does make a success of it,and if he remains a "man of the people" once he has. :)

He's got no chance, nor should he have.

Your right Albs, however when it comes to setting up a bank, I'd bet that many of the old attitudes remain pretty entrenched...  :-\

Indeed, but if two men of about the same age, with little banking experience went to the FSA (with 50 million in their back pockets) for a banking licence....

The first man is called Rupert Chumley-Wolstenhume, went to Eton, read History of Art at Oxford followed by a career in the Household Cavelry and the second is David Fishwick, went to Burnley Comp where he left at 16 and went on to become a very successful self made millionaire.....

My money would be on Rupert!!!  ;)
