Another LPG Question
« on: 14 April 2008, 09:16:10 »

I have been involved in a few threads regarding LPG and I was thinking of saving up to get it done!

Someone I know works for Evans Halshaw in and has been working on vauxhalls since it was Brown & Whites donkeys years ago! I told him the other day I was thinking about the LPG and he cringed, told me not to bother! He said they are ok out the factory but if not run from new there can be problems! especially on the V6.

As you can imagine I am now not quite sure what to do, I know that loads of you guys have either had it fitted or done it yourself and all seem happy!

What are you supposed to believe? People who fix them everyday and have done for 25 years or people who own and run them, and also have massive experience in maintaining them!

What kind of problems what he referring to?

There can be problems with anything, but it's mainly down to the quality of workmanship. A conversion that's done well will not cause any issues at all however if it's bodged it can open a can of worms.

He didn't really go into much detail just said that if not run from new on LPG the V6's don't really like it!

I think it may be because he see's it on a daily basis. It just puts doubt in the back of your mind though!

Hmm. I don't buy stories of the engine not being "used" to LPG. The engine is a collection of bits of metal after all. I doubt its' memory is that good. ;)

On a serious note, plenty of members are running V6s on LPG and I don't recall hearing of an LPG related problem. Do your homework and choose carefully and you'll be fine. Don't be swayed by installers who say they can do it in a day. It takes time to convert one properly.

You could always DIY, of course. That's one way to ensure it's done to your satisfaction.

About 20,000 on LPG on this car - no problems except the low quality valve seals fitted to early DBW engines >:( And this is nothing to do with the LPG kit

Its safe to say you could get problems with any car/engine if the kit isn't fitted to a standard.

I have seen some really bad installs, there have been a few members on here that have suffered as well at the hands of so called 'experts'

I did mine DIY, any issues i had i created.....and then solved, the install was discreet and when it was at the dealers once it was asked it this was a factory fitment.
