Veccy C 3.2. Oil filter housing problem ...........
« on: 20 July 2012, 09:03:35 »

Hi,

A mate has an '05 Veccy C with the 3.2 engine. Has a problem with the oil filter housing which has sprung a leak a few hundred miles after service, coating much of his engine bay and underneath the car with oil :'(.

Possibly a cracked housing?

Suggestion is that the filter housing/seal is a poor design and that they fail sometimes, is this true?. Was perfect for 200 miles after the service and then the leak happened. I thought the housing had to be torqued up as on the Omega, is this true?

Thanks - Rob

Apparently, the oil filter cap is tightened to 25Nm Rob.

Thought so - but are we 100% sure that this applies to the Veccy/Signum engine as well? I can't see why it wouldn't TBH, and suspect that it's been over tightened and cracked.

It's only 15Nm on the Omega.  :y

I pulled that figure off an oil change guide for the Vectra 3.2 on the web so may be innacurate  ::)

I'd imagine its the same part, which would then have 15Nm stamped on it. Which is the big give-away ;)

Its possibly that its come loose at the housing to block end, not uncommon if the previous fitter had overtightened.

The later 1800 Vectra has a plastic filter cap, I only ever nip that up :-\ is the cap metal as per the Omegas?

Andy C has confirmed that it's the same part number as on the Omega.

Thanks guys, car goes in for rectification next week.
