very soft suspension...
« on: 20 July 2012, 13:19:48 »

Hi guys,

Sometime ago I fitted new dampers but not new springs. The car still seems to be very soft.

Do springs wear out?

Thanks!

Are the springs GM or some other make? Other makes can be very soft compared to genuine.

Sorry for late reply.....

Yes mine is an elite, I have not changed the springs, so I am guessing they are the original. Car has done about 95k miles.

Elite suspension is very soft. Very, very soft.

If its got massively soft at the back, check the air shocks are still working, and that the rear springs are not broken.

The rear dampers have been replaced with non air versions. Is there another model that has harder suspension? I guess the MV6?

That will explane the over soft feeling if it still has the original over soft self levelling springs. They are designed to be partly supported by the self levelling air shocks.

Depends what you want from the car ultimately as to how you proceed.

If your happy with stock elite handling and the SL springs are not broken, then new SL shocks would be the way forward if the pump still works.

If your looking at firming up the ride over and above elite, then lowered sports chassis as fitted to face lift mv6 is the way. But springs from vx are expensive, and nobody else makes lowered sports chassis.

Do you have a long term view on how you want the car to handle. Ride heights etc?
