New car... a few niggles
« on: 27 July 2012, 17:03:34 »

So 2 weeks ago I bought my 3.2 elite... all good I though and on the whole it is...

So far I've had the following occur....

1. parking sensors dont appear to have any life in them ( I'm a big boy so can park fine anyway, but would be nice to have them working, but nor sure where to start to find the fault.. )
2. Ive had the spanner light come on, then go off, then come on again then go off... quite a few times during a 500 mile round trip back up north
3. drove it for about 5 mins the other day.. all ok .. turned it off then it wouldnt start... so had to leave it by the side of the road for a day.. came back and it fired up fine.... took it to my m8s garage and connected the old solus and low and behold.. no codes registered...

so . err any ideas? cause i'm getting a bit stumped especially about the starting thing....

Yep sounds like classic crank sensor failure.  If a new one fitted make sure its genuine Vx ;)

Yeah I was thinking crank sensor... seems the best option.... just like the dreaded egr on my previous signum!

however..it doesn't cut out whilst running..........

does anyone in the london area have a tech2 or "My Naff Code Reader"?

I have a Tech 2 (see link at the bottom of this post). The closest that I regularly come to London is J4a of the M3 though. Try the pedal trick first, though. Might save you a journey.

Ill give the pedal trick a go.... the spanner light is currently on, but keeps going off then on and them off again... the car hasn't failed whilst driving yet though.... only when it was switched off then it wouldnt start again for about a day! but thats only happened once so far..

Suggest as soon as, if it`s an 0335 code and the crank sensor gives up you`ll never start it

Bank 1 knock sensor.

Favourite here is that the wire has been trapped under the aux. belt tensioner pulley bracket during a cam belt change.

Worth double checking it's not 0335 though. ;)

Worth checking it's been plugged back in, though. Connector just at the driver's side of the cable tray that runs across the front of the cam belt cover. Follow the wire down and see if it's trapped under the pulley bracket.
