for those of you that took an interest in my pond quick update up to 12 gold fish and 12 sambuka the poppy eyed ones all doing well

so went and got 3 butterfly kio what a really elegant fish they are  could watch em for hours

Pleased to hear the pond is doing well,Paul.

Remember though don,t over load the content until its fully mature as lots of fish produce lots of crap and that is not good for the water condition however well the filter works.

Slowly ,slowly and you will end up with a really health pond and contents.

cant help it get too excited but it all seems to be doing well plants fish blimey they grow quick but i only went to the aquatic centre for some more oxegynating plants and saw these butterfly kio that was it so hope i have not jumped in too soon they are lovely fish plus wifey has a thing for butterflies ( sad story) and made her day

Your Post brought back a few memories Paul!
I kept Tropical & Marine fish many moons ago, and swmbo saw this (to her!) beautiful Butterfly fish in the tropical section of our local pet shop, so I bought it. Everything was ok for 24 hours until I began finding half a Guppy here, & a third of a Red Tailed Shark there! So I determined to find the culprit and kept a beady eye on the tank, admiring the Butterfly fish as it cruised quietly just under the surface minding it's own business THEN..... a Zebra Striped Dannio cruised lazily past the aforementioned bag of shi* which promptly opened this mahoosive  jaw like a cross channel ferry and flashed a set of fearsome gnashers that wouldn't have looked out of place on a bleeding Dinosaur & demolished said Dannio in one snap!
I'm ashamed to say I netted it 'At the Double' & despatched the bugger down the WC pan!
You won't have that problem with your variety, but you will have to be on the lookout for certain types of birds, notably Herons & the like, which love a bit of fresh fish & can see them from a fair height, so keep an eye out!

Swmbo and Miss Vamps tried to buy some more tropical fish from an new, to us, pet shop turns out that they would not be suitable for the mix that we have....
We still have something though that goes for any babies or smaller fish that we introduce, never managed to identify for certain which one.....

At first we 'rushed' our tank, impatient to get it full and lost lots in the first few weeks, now a very established tank which helps with new additions.....

tropical fish is something i am really looking forward to, but need to get more work finished on the house yet so for now its the pond which is great

ive just sold my tank,i started with a 2ft tropical and then bought a 4ft.had to sell the 4ft cos i needed the space and i went back down to my 2ft but as my 4ft left the house my enthusiasm went with it so i gave in and let the 2ft go aswell just a couple of weeks ago.i miss it but i dont miss the cleaning

cleaning of the tank??...are you refering too algae build up???...as tbh my one takes about and hour a week....unless you talking marine fish keeping

i used to vac the gravel which at the same time changed some water and clean the filter,when i went back down to the 2ft tank i lost interest and the algae built up to the point i said cant be bothered and got rid

I think the fish in my pond are basically indestructible - they have been in there for years and years, just cleaned the filter to improve waterfall flow and replaced with 10% fresh water so they should be happy.

apparently koi can live up to 200 years with average life span 25 to 35. my lot must be on 15 to 20.

  Amazing , would like to build my own water feature and pond eventually ..glad all the fish have settled in

A few years ago my mate and I were sharing a flat and we went halfs on a 2 metre long tank, which we filled with Cichlids.    They were very colourful, but you had to be careful what you put in with them as they're vicious little buggers!!!    We'd treat them now and again with a bag of small 'feeder fish' and pull up a chair, crack open a beer and watch the fun!!
