There is nothing wrong with the hardware (save for it being 12 months behind the rest), and there is nothing wrong with the software "per se".
Being unable to share a pic via Bluetooth with a "non authorised" Apple device is however akin to turning up for a gunfight armed with a knife IMHO.

...but then, isn't wifi, 3G via email just as easy?

Pah this is all boll@x anyway. Neither android or iOS are up to where Nokia where 15 years ago on functionality. Wake me up when there is something new. Oh sigh...

I agree on all points :y

Legacy Windows Mobile did more than all 3 platforms (crApple/Android/Nokia) do now, 5 or 6 years ago. But needed constant tweaks or reboots, and was a bit flakey.

I did like Windows Mobile 6.5, but sadly the only handset manufacturers were HTC, and they concentrated on 'pub bragging' specs, rather than actual functionality and performance.

I went crApple after I bought Mrs TB one for her birthday, and liked the 'just works'. No glitches. No reboots. No constant tweaking. It 'just works'. Ironically, the iPhone interacts with Microsoft's own emaiil system than what Windows Mobile did (or does now)!

No desire to change. To be honest, there are only 2 viable smartphones - iPhone and Android. RIM and Nokia will not survive long (months), unless Microsoft buys one of them. Although I doubt this will happen, as MS themselves are having to shake themselves up and regain a focus on their core business.

Android is not for me until someone releases a usable email client.

But I lack any loyalty to Apple. I don't like the company, and I don't like the majority of their products. But their consumer devices (gayPod/gayPad/gayPhone) are class leading.

Should be able to sync contacts from old source.

Mrs TB and I just enter it into Outlook, and as long as the phone is within WiFi or Cellular range, it appears there within seconds.

connects to the one in mine no probs.

Thats apple for you I guess!  May have to raise a support ticket, but £1 to 1p they will blame the stereo (which is perfect with any/exverything else)

I was right...

To quote, since IOS 5.1.1, we have a lot of compatibility problems, contact pioneer for a fix.

Right, yes, thats gonna happen, your software has introduced a problem, of course everyone else should fix it for you  ;D

One of the first things I said was I know you wont fix this on the phone, I just want to add my voice in hope that the developers realise they need to fix it.

Ahh well, new software due in the autumn, fingers crossed for a fix, not holding my breath though.

My old Pioneer required the phone to be "discoverable" full time for it to connect, even when paired, is yours the same, perhaps? Or won't it even pair?

Most phones will let you leave them discoverable (my old crackberry did, as did the Nokia before it), but not the iPhone - but you actually shouldn't have to have a device discoverable once it's paired - that was a failing of my old Pioneer stereo, not the iPhone (I had a DEH-P85BT or something like that).

This is a DEH-P55BT...

It pairs fine
wont autoconnect (unless discoverable / in the bluetooth menu)

even then, once used...noone can hear anything, its as if both lines are dead.

Works perfectly in the slightly newer DEH-P700BT in mine.  (thats the best solution to be honest...pick up another off ebay, has a few features id like to see in both cars, better colour match, better inputs, both already talk to the steering controls and MID display.)

Bluetooth is a sod on older devices, as the specs for each profile constantly changed, and in some cases were open to interpretation. Great job, Mr Ericsson.

crApple's BT implementation is poor. Actually, non existent. However, the BT 'Handsfree' profile is pretty good/robust IME.

Try Pioneer for an update, but I suspect you know what the answer is. I used to like Pioneer stuff 20 years ago, but they 'did a Sony' and started resting on their laurels and traded more on their brand, rather than develop great products. IMHO.

iOS6 is reported to have a far more complete BT stack, though I suspect the Handsfree profile will probably be an even later revision spec, and if the Pioneer has fallen behind already....

this stereo doesnt even have an update facility
mine does....and last had one when nokia brought out the n-series
worked well, just bluetooth a special jpg to the stereo.

Not holding 'much' hope on apple so will look at a replacement stereo I think (same as mine from ebay)  as not much newer from them will talk to the mid and steering unfortunately, and saves buying another adaptor.
