The achiles heal of this engine is the fuel injection pump.  They are quite delicate and a horrendous price to replace.  There are a few things you can do to ensure they last though...

Don't use cheap fuel
Don't let the fuel level get too low
Definately don't ever run out of fuel!!
A drop of 2 stroke oil in each tank of diesel helps too.  :y

How big should that drop of 2-stroke be?

Out of interest Pete, what do you use and where do you get it from?

I'm thinking I should really invest in a larger quantity of the stuff, as it will get used eventually.  :y

Just the Comma cheap mineral stuff from my local auto factors. I have a trade account ;)

A bottle lasts me quite a while, as I don't do many miles :y I'm squeezing 47.9 mpg at the moment too :) Driving like I've never driven before ;D ;D

How much do you pay for 5 litres Pete (if that's the quantity you buy it in?)

That's bloody impressive mpg mate!  I did manage to get a full tank to full tank average of 60.2mpg out of our 2.2 dti Vectra once (just over 700 miles!), but my god it was hard work!  The concentration required trying to second guess what all the muppets on the road were going to next was properly exhausting!!  ::)

I only buy one litre at a time. Must get some more though :y
It is very hard work guessing what traffic lights, road users idiots & other obstacles are going to do.

The best price I can find for 5 litres is about £20. Is that about right would you say?  :-\
