As the title suggests has anyone run 225 40 R17's on the early Elite wheels ?

Why? Just fit 235/45s

Running this size of tyre will make your rolling radius too small.  This will throw your speedo out.

Standard 17"s will also on that car as they have a smaller rolling radius than the 16"s it came with

Not to mention any insurance or handling issues caused by running such an odd size just because the stud pattern is the same doesn't make it right

Early Elites had 16" rims, some fitting any 17" tyre is gonna need an awful lot of expanding foam

Thats because early Elite alloys are 16's

Think you guys are getting the wrong end of the stick here...

When Sam says 'early elite' he means the early facelift elite 17's that he's recently fitted to his 2.2 dti GLS.  There are lots of pictures of this around the forum.

I wasn't trying to stick my nose in with my post Sam, merely warning you about the speedo inaccuracy in case you hadn't factored that in.

Not quite.  Late elite wheels are the six spoke ones, so 'early facelift' is probably a good description for them. 

Or 'middle aged elite' if you prefer.

Elite ran on 16" from 1994 to 1999, and 17" from 2000 to 2003. So first 6 years on 16" and last 4 years on 17". Thus 'Early Elite' can never be described as anything other than 16"  .

Late could easily cover the last 4 years, in same that early can cover first 4 years.


Thats why I think Model Year is helpful. Not that I get excited enough about alloy wheels to know the difference between them all.

I'm using 225 45 17 with goodyear f1 asymmetric 2 tires.. and pleased with them..

Quite.

I know there are a few 'train spotters' on here when it comes to alloys. I'm not one of them.  I couldn't even tell you what my MV6's wheels came off...
