Other way to look at it, its a 2 week advertisement for London. The marathon through central London, took in all the key sights and looked amazing.

Also my sources tell me if you take away the cost of the buildings, the games made a considerable operating profit.

Fantastic opening event, fantastic games, fantastic TV coverage and fantastic closing ceremony. I could make suggestions for improvements but they would only be minor except empty seats.

Saw something about funding for athletes and thought it was great value for money. A mere £127 million. The extra take up of sport (and therefore improved standard of health ) will save millions on future NHS bills.

The whole closing ceremony was on Spanish TV this morning while I waited for car air con to be regassed. Spain did poorly in the medal tables.

BBC coverage was poor reguarding highlights and the use of the extra Olympic channels for live coverage only. As mentioned what good is that when your at work?

I can't see why the extra channels couldn't repeat the coverage of the assigned event continually until the next live event started.
For example BMX was never ever shown in the highlights afaict. Shooting only got a brief mention in the evening as we got a medal.

But that's down to the BBC. Nout to do with the Olympics as such.

It was truly a great event. It didnt disrupt travelling into London to much either

Top event, well worth the money spent

yea if my infos are correct the budget of the games was double than Hungary's one year state budget... :o The most surprise of  mine was Brasil - Mexico football match where finally Mexico won...but back to the budget I'm sure of money not everything as most of you tell about "atmosphere" , "proudness" and other different abstract/theoretic notions. We also candidated for the games because of not only financial benefit but with intention of making rise the national proudness a bit, which was quite low at the time of candidation. Also the radio is saying right now that what a huge benefit will be realised by GB's economy as not only the power of the country was shown up but the individual's as well and the mental condition of person how closely relates to the achievement of economy... :y
Not sure about the finacial implications, as history shows that the hosting city suffers from lower consumer spending after the games, and that seems to be the case here with retailers around the venue.

Although, in the UK as a whole, it seems that consumers have disappeared since the Jubilee celebrations. Not sure if thats due to Jubilee and Olympics, or just the realisation/confirmation that the UK is in the worse double dip recession in living memory (something any consumer facing business has been saying for about 18 months, but the 'official' figures have only just caught up). One of the more shocking figures is Amazon reporting a 90% drop in profits - Amazon are supposed to be one of the success stories, and supposedly unaffected by the young generation's lethargy in going out shopping.

Some years before in the times of plenty; the Gods of Olympia had bestowed their great games upon Londinium and charged the people with the task of creating a games at which the peoples and athletes of other lands could come, watch and compete in a peaceful spirit of equality, friendship and fun.  :)

In the years to come the Gods saw a great depression fall upon the peoples of Londinium and the lands around, and the people were dismayed, discouraged and fearful  :'(  The Money Lenders were seen as the cause of the troubles and were hoarding their coins, but The Priests wrung their hands and looked away while the land was stalked by the spectre of floods, famine and pestilence.  :-\  Despite a celebration for The Queen of the Great Britons, after forty days and forty nights of rain, the people forgot or didn't care for the games of the Olympic Gods.  :(

However when the time came the people held a ceremony which nobody understood, but nobody cared as they danced, laughed, had fun and forgot their troubles.  :)  The Gods saw this, smiled and the sun shone across the land and the people were happy, and flocked to the coliseum to see the athletes compete.  8)  They saw triumph, tragedy, blood, sweat and tears and came away with much admiration for those great athletes and rejoiced in the glory and spirit of the Olympic Games!!  :y

At the end of the Olympiad the people held a great party in the coliseum at which singers, dancers, fools and jesters entertained and the Gods decided they could do no more for the people of Londinium and it's great lands, and looked away to The Land of Diminishing Forests where the next games would be held.....

and now it's bloody pissing down again!!!!  :D :D :D  ::) ::) ::)   ;D ;D ;D

Hope you all enjoyed The Games folks 'cos I certainly did!!  :y :y :y  Looking forward to The Paralympics now!!  :y :y :y

...Britons on organizing the Olympic Games  :y It was huge achievement you can be really proud of it. Just reading some statistics in connection with the Games and thought of writing this brief post.  :) :) It was especially interesting that how many soldier was getting ready to do their job if needed...Some of my friends have been to London nobody talked about missiles and army presence though. Perhaps everybody were invisible... :)

no ifs buts.. definitely..

French is first language of games, all games have been like this.

My opinion only....

Good bits........the events :y Hotels getting caught out after having hiked prices into 'silly land', and in some cases, having to drop the prices per room, by £600 !!!!!!!!! :y

Bad bits.........Expense, Coe in total denial about empty seats, terrible rambling commentary, especially during Mo Farrows ten thousand ( Mrs T, 'pro' olympics got well arsey and turned the sound off ), the incessant hype trying to justify it, despite an empty London etc ( lad had to go to London on business for a few days, and said London is dead.) :-\
Opening and closing ceremony's   :-\
