Should the brake servo pipe be" loose"at  the engine end? While the nut that goes into the plenum is tight I can hold the pipe itself and rotate it as far as any free play allows,is this right or should the pipe be immovable?

There can be some slack (enought to rotate the pipe) on some where the plastic part fits over the metal fitting.

The key thing is that the unions are tight and that its not worn through where it passes the aircon pipe at the rear right

Technically it would still be an air leak, except the air (at atmospheric pressure) would be leaking into the pipe rather than out of it.
