Lack of power on 2.5TD, now back with a vengeance?
« on: 17 August 2012, 16:08:59 »

Hey guys,

Interesting one for you. 2 weeks ago the car had very little power under 2.5k rpm, and then over that it seemed like normal. Before that the exhaust had been rattling under the car near the engine so when the power loss came i thought that perhaps the exhaust had cracked in someway and was letting the gases escape and not boosting properly at low revs so I made a mental note to have it looked at. Anyway probably a week ago the exhaust stopped rattling so i figured that whatever was knocking as broken now so again made a note to have it looked at.

Then today I'm driving around and all the power from before is back for sure, the acceleration from stand still and walking pace and I'm pleased but interested into why?

Thoughts please.

Bit more info for you. I can see no visual leaks or split pipes in the air system or intercooler or turbo. The bit about the exhaust i mentioned is not hanging off or anything just that if i touch the exhaust ( behind the front wheels) with a gloved hand and put pressure on it the vibration noise stopped, I assumed it was hitting the firewall or something like that.

Thanks guys,

Appreciate your thoughts.

Alex

Interesting thanks,

So is this an issue ideally I want to have looked at soon rather than later? Is it suddenly going to get worse again at any point do you think?

Thanks

I agree with Omegatoy, cat breaking up and blocking outlet, you may have got lucky in that its broken up enough to be blown through hence the return of power.
