2001 (Y) 2.2 Auto ECL and strange gear change
« on: 21 August 2012, 12:23:11 »

I have the emission control light on - local VX specilist have switched it off a couple of times for me but comes back, almost always as you lift off from a motorway type run.

Error codes logged are both Lamda sensors, "throttle position not plausible with engine load" and service light short circuit or failed. They are logged but not active in the ecu with exception of service light. Monitoring the Lamda sensors in live data on tech 2 shows them to be working when tested.

Only symptom when driving is unwillingness to change up gear and changing down on a motorway when encountering a slight hill. Most noticeable at around 30mph when it will sit revving just over 3K until you let the accelerator up at which point it changes up.

VX specilist is advising change ECU, but wanted some other thoughts before I spend out.

Where are you? Sounds like you need someone who knows what they are doing ;)

I'd be checking live data on the MAF, and looking for possible airleaks first ;)

In Bournemouth - I can go back and asked them to look at live MAF data, this can be faulty even if no codes logged for it? (they have not charged anything as yet so can't moan too much)

I know its a bit of a trek (just beyond Winchester), but I'd be inclined to visit Kevin Wood, as just from your initial post, I've lost faith in your local Vx 'specialist'  :'(

And, yes, codes are just a small part of the jigsaw, offering small clues to what is wrong.  Trouble is, most garages don't really understand modern systems, and change parts blindly based on codes. Which is wrong.

I was a little scepticle, hence the post here - to me the ECU seems like the most expensive thing to change not the first!

Is Kevin a garage? Or member on here?

Thanks

ABS aside, Omega ECUs are normally very, very reliable.

Kevin Wood is a member here, and knows his stuff.

Thank you, I will send him a message on here.

I should also have said my display says "Low Beam Fld/Vision" which does not seem related but thought I should leave nothing out. I do not have HID lights which this error seems to relate to.

F/L CDX should have HID`s. If no adjuster wheel on left hand side of main lightswitch, you`ve got HID`s fitted

I have the adjuster wheel 0,1,2,3 and "normal" filament bulbs in the headlights. Did all CDX have HID? Could someone have changed them?
