Elite Rear Springs
« on: 23 August 2012, 18:41:55 »

MFL  3.0 Elite Saloon with self leveling.

Need recomendations for replacement springs.

Been quoted £50 +vat from local parts supplier but wondering what the best replacements might be.

Also, whats involved in fitting them, garage have told be they look like being a pain to change as everything looks seized up.  ( I thought it would be a case up possibly undoing/removing shocker and then just compressing the spring if required.)( Obviously take the wheel off 1st, not sure if disks need removing, either way I want the hand brake adjusting)

Car went through the MOT with flying colours , but then found both rear springs had snapped.  ::)  (got to remember it's an Elite and not a rally car)

Shop around, they are the same springs no matter where you get them, see who is cheapest.

Make sure you get self levelling though, if that's what you want.
They do standard and SL. Although both will fit and work fine with self levelling shocks.

I've got some Boge self levelling ones sat in my garage that were on my Elite for about 1yr/3k before removing and replacing with something with some cornering capability ;D

I really should sell them, rather than keep tripping over them ;D

I think I've got the original receipt somewhere, can't remember how much, but not cheap. £147 rings a bell :o

Lol, allways felt the Elite was a bit wallowy on the bends compared to the GLS.  Was quite happy with the way it handed on the way for the MOT as I was running a bit late  ::)  Handles better on snapped springs, so I understand why you updated yours.    (Mind you, its just had 4 new tyres on it as well, so thay might have had something to do with it.  ::) )

I fitted standard springs with my S/L shocks with no ill effects... In fact, it made it a little less wallowy I think :-\ ::)

Got some KYB springs delivered last week, took one out of the box to see if it was barrel shaped, that was ok.   Car booked in to have springs fitted today, along with a couple of other jobs, took the second spring out of the box and found it to be different.

Springs differ in height, coil spacing and metal thickness.

Complained to supplier.  Seems I had the last 2 springs of what is now a discontinued item.  :-\

Am so hacked off.  Replacement springs were promiced for yesterday, UKmails delivery lorry apperntly something broke on the lorry and it jack knived, promiced again for today and its looking like they havent even been picked up yet, hopeing thats an intermadiate depot and not the supplier.

Aggggghhhhhhhh.  Now found a place that has 2 KYB's on the shelf and cheaper by £15 but cant gaurantee delivery by tomorrow.  :-\
