LPG Certificate
« on: 24 August 2012, 18:45:59 »

Although I have the safety check report supplied by an approved LPG company, and my miggy having been insured by me previously simply by informing the insurer of the safety check. Now I have the miggy back I phoned Churchill to have the insurance swapped back. An over enthusiastic girl at Churchill asked me about my LPG Certificate, she checked the LPG register and told me that my miggy is not on the register, so the best she could do was insure the car 3rd party.. I contacted the person who carried out the safety check 3 years ago, received an e-mail back this evening telling me that all certificates are sent to LPGA. But he will check on my miggy 'next week'.. I've only waited SEVEN weeks to get my car back, 'don't ask'  :o But for now it's back to swmbo's Rover  :-[

Power is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how much of the wall you take with you.

She was right.... :-[ :-[   What is a certificate of conformity and why do I need one?

Section 7 Para 7.2 of the COP 11 : 2001 states "that a competent person responsible for ensuring compliance with the Code of Practice and relevant Statutory Regulations should, upon satisfactory completion of all tuning and tests, issue a signed certificate of conformity for the purchaser". This will be required by most of the leading vehicle insurance companies who will need to be informed, along with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (Swansea) that the customer is running their vehicle on dual fuel LPG. Failure to do so may invalidate any insurance policy. If you are not sure on what to do or do not have the time then LPG-Cars will actually do the leg work for you. We will submit the correct documentation to the appropriate DVLA office so that you will get the updated V5 (vehicle log book) posted direct to you.

I know a certified installer can certify your car after the fact so maybe that's the best way to go.
I have a friend in Thurrock (Essex) that can do it but I'm sure there must be an installer closer to you that will do it.

Fairly sure that the certificate you have if issued by a LPGA member and is proper registration. If so, it's a case of sending proof to UKLPG (the LPGA's new name) and they will add it to the online register. Be warned... If you send the original cert and they lose it you will have no proof ;)

....I thought only cars converted after the web based register started had to be on the register?  Not so it seems. :(

recall similar issues when insurance was swapped from my name to MotherT's for the 2.2, same register issue so it was third party only.  :(

Given its value, 3rd party is enough though

If you've paid to have the car's lpg install checked by an 'Approved Installer' i.e. a member of the LPGA, then they are supposed (as part of the cost of the Inspection) to register your vehicle immediately online and issue you with a typed letter confirming this which you can then get copied to send to your Insurer and DVLA. :y

It's my old car. It was certified with a safety cirt a few years ago. He's just trying to re insure the car to the same spec as last time, after a month or two un insured.

Edit . The web based register did not exist when the LPG was installed.

But IIRC it was an inspection by a LPGA Approved Installer, so should have been added to the register automatically ;)

To add to my previous post, if it is an Approved Safety Inspection then addition to the register will be done FOC :y

It was indeed. So does the op need to ring the the Approved inspector on the cirt and enquire why it's not on the data base...?
