them be the ones ! .. but they dont join to anything. do they have water in? (or should they?) theres nothing leaking from them.

ours has a thick rubber pipe between those two holes, like a direct out / in like the cooler has been bypassed? .. funny, being that its 40 degrees outside !

Nope,oil.Oil goes up oneof them to the cooler and comes back down the other one. ;)

im guess that if i re-connect them itīll p*ss oil everywhere. wheres the oil cooler? and can i test it before i reconnect it (thinking there must of been a reason that it was bypassed in the first place? )

is it the litte radiator in front of the engine radiator ?

dont like the idea of it being bypassed when its 40+ degrees outside in august?!?! but obviously there was a reason for it. looks like ive found the next job to do.. bah. ... :D

wooohooo.. :D

ive been on it again for a few hours. took off the bypass pipe and the oil filter. (dropped the oil first, and it was like syrup  :( ) this gave me easy access to the two middle bolts at the bottom. they came out easy.

I FOUND THE PROBLEM! turns out the bottom rear most bolt had rusted and snapped off, like alot of other omegas, apparently!

so now i have one bolt left in, and the manifold is loose ( i can wiggle it by hand).

itīll be off tomorrow, then once its on the bench iīll be starting on getting the small torx bolts out that hold the heat sheild, they were rusted in (as you can see from the above posts)

wow, i sound like such a whiney idiot hahaha :D

when its off, iīll "double nut" the stud on the back end and whip that out.

all my new stuff has arrived, new GM oil filter, studs, nuts, big nuts for the down pipe, gaskets. (40 quid including postage).

now i need to order two new heatsheilds, and refit it all with the new gasket.

then itīll be MOT time !

Cooler sits in the V of the engine.Need to remove the plenum,inlet manifold,manifold sandwich plate and then you will see the oil cooler cover plate with the two pipes from down near the filter running to/from it.Cooler lives under the cover plate and sits in the coolant.Its actually a heat exchanger rather than a simple cooler.
It may well be that the cooler sprung a leak (quite common) so someone has bypassed it to get around the problem. ;)

for now i think that iīll re-fit the bypass tube, and look at it again in feb / march when it stops raining over here.

the car runs at 90c constantly, it never gets above that, so its not so much of an issue. i want to get the car running and back on the road asap.

here we go again :D

Albitz - you say its quite common so whats normally the issue? does it need a new oil cooler? iīd rather have it working. how much are they ?

ok.. the manifold is OFF !

next problem, the rear bolt that had snapped.. how the hell do i get it out?

weld a nut onto it? mole grips?

Is any of the broken stud proud of the surface that you could get a set of grips onto ? or is it flush with the surface ??

the stud snapped just below the nut, so theres the non-threaded bit and about enough thread to wind a nut on. what you thinking?

Think I would give it a really good soak in plusgas first and leave to soak in for hour or so.

Can you get 2 thin M8 nuts on to the thread thats left ..if so you may be able to get the first nut to act against the 2nd and be able to wind it out..that would be my first attempt as you still will keep the thread intact.

2nd option woud be getting a really tight grip with mole grips or similar and attempting to undo,but first give it a good hard tap with a metal hammer on the end of the broken stud as that may shock the thread a bit more.

Last option if the two above dont work would be welding a nut onto the broken stud and then again attempting to undo with socket or ring spanner.

i think i have at least one of those here so that could work, im not sure if i can buy those here, but iīd much rather that than welding, space is limited enough without sticking a molten metal rod up there too hahaha
