Starting Issues
« on: 29 August 2012, 19:24:56 »

Okay so having a little problem that i really don't want to turn into a big one...

the car starts sort of, but acts like it has a flat battery as in I turn the key to start it the lights go dim and it just sort of acts like it doesn't want to turn over, after holding it over though for a few seconds it starts to turn over and reluctantly starts. so far ive only changed the battery but I'm wondering what everyone elses' take is on it?

Look for poor connections, esp around the +ve connection near battery.

Or, bring it around one day.

Information tends to support connection issues especially if you are confident the battery was fully charged and in good condition etc, have you tried jump leads (I expect so)?

Do check all major power connections, +ve & -ve around battery and elsewhere especially as your radio seems to suffer a loss of power each time you try and start (with a good power source). Search a bit more if you can bear it!

Starter motors rarely fail on the V6. I reckon a poor connection (battery terminal crimp coming loose?) or a poor battery, which hopefully you can eliminate.

Do check the battery is charging properly though. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90619.0   ;)

As mentioned check the terminals. My car was like this until I did. It turned out to be corroded wire inside the big crimped battery terminals. Due to the nature of it I had to replace the terminals. I choppped them off, bared more cable, cleaned up the strands, soldered them with plumbers solder and  blow torch, then put them into new terminals. The car starts infintely better now, and the best thing is bloody trafficmaster keeps quiet aswell.

Yep. :y The clue, other than having a waggle of the wire, is that the terminals can get hot while the car is running or when starting. Can also fix by stripping back to good copper and then fitting a terminal with a screw clamp for the cable.
