2.6 problems, help!
« on: 17 April 2008, 23:41:00 »

hi all, i bought a 2.6 vectra with a misfire (very cheap) only misfires at idle seems to pull through the gears quite well. fault codes have been,
random/multiple misfire
misfire cyl. 1
now and again brings up code (quite rare, been starting it up loads)
misfire cyl. 2
misfire cyl. 6
air mass meter low input
has had both head gaskets replaced due to low compression on two cylinders has had new coil pack on cyl. 2,4,6
any suggestions before it costs a fortune?
am thinking that another sensor is causing misfire as coil pack 2,4,6 is new. thanks in advance.

Are the plug wells clear of oil?

Has everything sealed correctly (plenum rubbers, etc?), all vacuum lines and breathers correctly connected?

Feels like an air leak to me, backed up by the MAF voltage low.

Yep they are about, not common, but seen a fair few.

Check plugs for oil.

When I developed a misfire on my 2.6l the driver's side Coil Per Plug unit was perfect, but there was water completely filling the front plug well on the passenger side, and a very small amount of mayo in the rear well. No oil at all. The CPP unit was cracked, however, in several places, so I drowned it in WD40 after cleaning it up.
Changed the cam cover gasket, cleaned everything up and have had no problems in this area at all since.
Just got to tackle leaking valve stem seals now.

hi, thanks for the replys. it had misfire before doing head gaskets, when gaskets were done (last week) it had new plugs, all gaskets inc. cam covers, and i've sprayed everywhere with wd40 to try and find an airleak, still nothing. the air mass meter fault code only comes on every now and again but the car is not in daily use, just start it every day, and go for a quick run now and then.
if i leave it to idle the only codes i get now are:
random/multiple misfire
misfire cyl. 1
fuel tank low (got quarter tank)
the other codes i get when driving it, but again not always ( what a crappy fault).
