best £150 i ever spent....
« on: 18 April 2008, 20:44:31 »

Snowboarding day!

Spent the whole day at MK Xscape snowboarding.

Never been before, was so suprised at how fast i took it up. the start you off face backwards, and holding in on the 'toe' edge, and control you decent.

Before i knew it i was zig zagging down, in different directions.

Had a fantastic time!

Towards the end, moved on to S bends and stuff, but on my LAST run down i over-cooked it and took too much speed, had a BIG crash. Now i have a lump on my right wrist, and it hurts like mad  >:(

Still best money i have spent to date, i am going back!!!

Cool!.....I`m envious Tunnie; `though if I tried it, there`d be added comedic-value for everyone else `watching me make a total-pratt out myself; falling over ALL the time!....a natural skier?....NOT! ;D

I saw people training for Skiiing too, looked a lot harder.

Within 2 hours i had picked it up, and could control my decent down the slop.

Debs highly recommned, xscape in MK  :y

Real snow, fantasic fun. Such a sense of achivement when you link turns and stuff together.

I got an awards thing, it said i got to Level 4, and there are 6 levels, so dead chufffed with that on my first go!

Give us a shout next time and we'll have a mini-oof meet.

I think I'll go for the skis though.

Kevin

EDIT: Then again, £150 for a DAY? :o Thought I'd missed a decimal point first time round.

Great fun isn't it! ;)

A few of us went to the xscape at Bawheid Braehead last year for my mates stag day.

Never been before because I've been a bit scared as I have previously damaged my crucate ligaments in both knees and I didn't want to exasterbate the damage.

Definatley glad I went though.

It's not being perceived as cheap where I'm sitting. Mind you, turning half of Milton Keynes into a cold store comes at a cost, I guess.  :-/

Well that was with a trainer all day! We had 2 instructors between 7 of us for the morning. Then just 1 after lunch

Its about £10/15 an hour once you go back and can be ok on you own.

I caused major problems at the ski lift, they are not designed for snowboarders, i managed to get the pole in my crotch.... oo errr Mrs.

It started to pull me up but i slipped out, with no forward power, i just went slide backwards and crashed into people  ;D

Can you Skii then Kevin?

I plan to go back very soon, and have a 2 hour Level 4 lesson.

There is a learner slop and that had loads of Ski trianing too.

Resembled a bond film, them all lined up, shuffling along, could easily take them all out!  ;D

I was dead chuffed with how easily i took up ballancing on the board, after lunch, standing up, coming to a stop was not a problem.

I just need to do my turns faster!

I can get by. Been on quite a few skiing holidays but probably need to work on my fitness before going again. If you've been bitten by the bug I strongly recommend a trip to the Canadian rockies next winter.  :y

I do hear Canada is the place to go!

Expensive to get there, but cheap once you are there.

I agree with Kevin, Canadian Rockies are great, most North American resorts are excellent.
Big wide trails, good value accomodations, lift ticket deals and very friendly resort personnel. Most resorts have guided tours of their terrain for all levels - most are free.
I can recomend Silver Star and Big White in Canada plus Breckenridge and Winter Park in the US.
If I can help let me know.

Yep. Been to the alps before but it's exactly as you said. Up in the ski resorts every restaurant, shop, etc. adds a 100% markup to their prices and you spend the whole holiday getting sh@fted.

In Canada the prices for eating out, etc. are normal Canadian prices - so dirt cheap by our standards. The weather is also more dependable and the resorts are less crowded meaning you don't spend ages queueing for a lift.

The couple of times I've been I've stayed in Banff which is 1 1/2 hours or so from Calgary so easy to get to, and there are 4 very good ski resorts a bus ride away.
