I asked a mate of mine what I should buy to wash the car with .. he gave me this list; needless to say, I took the car to his house ;D

What a list - a sensible decision mate  :y

Cleaning the car his way took four of us all day.. ;D Still, I will admit, it did look very shiny when it was done!

It has half of England's bug population welded to the front of it again now, though..

PM me your addy mate - I'll bring our motors over  ;D :y

this will be my procedure to wash, clay, polish, wax etc Even been watching video's on YouTube for tips mostly from yanks Americans  :-X ;D

So firstly rinse with the hose all round with just normal pressure for a hose till most of the muck is off...
Secondly get a bucket with over warm water mixed with "Meguiars - NXT Generation Car Wash"..
Thirdly rinse ready for the clay bar treatment with "BILT HAMBER Auto Clay Bar Regular" and "Meguiars Quik Detailer" as lubrication"...
Fourthly rinse off the clay residue ready for "
Autoglym Super Resin Car Cleaner Polish" ...
Lastly Wax the whole car with "
MEGUIARS ULTIMATE PASTE WAX" ...

Does this sound about correct as can be or i'm I missing something :-\

Sounds correct! Just remember:

1) Use LOTS of quick detailer as lube or you'll head to scratch city
2) You really want to use a DA polisher for the polishing, as it's damned hard work with your arms alone...

will do  :)
If iv'e been properly informed i shouldn't rub the clay bar in a circular motion ?

Regarding the DA polisher think i'll just stick to the old-fashioned way (due to price of them)  ::)

Meguiars and Autoglym do a decent job, but after having my car detailed at finerdetails.co.uk, this is what I purchased last year along with a Karcher jet wash for even distribution of shampoo. Hence way my car gets cleaned weekly no matter even if I've not used it....  :y

Sorry, children, a bit late to this thread.

Just a reminder, could we all try to act like adults?

Many thanks.

Yeah - clay bar in straight lines.. in fact, do everything in straight lines, including wax; apparently it's less easy to miss bits.

DAs are expensive (though www.cleanyourcar.co.uk has cheaper ones - the DAS-6 is the one my friend has and we used on the M3) but the results are spectacular.. only thing better is a rotary, and none of us are brave enough to try one of those for fear of ruining the car!

I have a daz 6 and must say they are great bits of kit.

This is the way i wash my motors.

Rim's first which i was using billberry but have switched to iron x. I still have some of the billberry and still use it on occasion. You spray on and then use a brush to agitate then rinse off.

Then snow form the hole car using one lid full of meg gold class and one pump of snow foam. Leave to dwell for a few mins and drag top dirt down.  Then rinse.

Then wash with two bucket methord complete with grit gards using meg wash mit. Rinse using open hose to bead off water.
If very hot day i will wash panel by panle and use my water spot.

Then dry using drying towel and meg last touch as drying aid and gives back abit of a shine due to small carnauba content.

If its big detail time i do all of the above but not drying stage i then use my compressor to blow all the water out from mirror's and trim's i would then use a bug and tar remover then clay the hole car.  Then re-wash.  Then polish using super resin polish and then finish off with dodo juicy banana armour.  Then glass and trim bit's and then on to inside but don't get me started on that lol.

I will have to get some photo of my collection of detailing goodies up at some point maybe once we have moved into our new house and my man cave is sorted.
