Where's the nearest GM Tech 2 scanning guru to Newcastle ?
« on: 04 September 2012, 11:21:20 »

I ask because I have a Control Indicator for Engine Electronics warning light (the one with the spanner) appearing after driving for a few miles. There is no performance reduction but the light stays on until I turn off the engine.

I've been told by the person who services the car that its to do with the service check control process and I'll need someone with a Tech 2 scanner to remedy the problem or pay GM a good many pounds. He has a scanner but it's not GM so he cant fix it  :-\

Will travel to wherever you are  :y

The problem with letting a VX dealer loose on your car with tech 2,is that it seems that very few of their "technicians" have much of a clue on how to use it properly. I think the nearest OOF tech 2 for you would be MarkDTM in Nottingham. Otherwise its up to the kingdom of Fife to Hotel21. :y

A generic ODBII reader should get the engine codes out, then post them up.

*Any* garage will have one, and they are designed for idiots to use, so a little unclear what your garage is on about TBH...

Try to get the codes (all of them), and post them up :y

When the light comes on, will the car accelerate all the way to the redline in 2nd gear?

Thanks for all those responses. I should explain the mechanic who services the car doesnt have a garage but does have a "Snap On" code reader which doesn't read all the codes apparently due to software inconsistencies.

So in the order they appeared I'll say:

"PM on its way"
Thanks GK I've sent the email to your contact as yet no reply

"Try to get the codes (all of them), and post them up"
I think the above goes some way to explaining why I cannot get the codes but I'll try another route

"When the light comes on, will the car accelerate all the way to the redline in 2nd gear?"
Dunno but will check today and let you know

"I live in Newcastle dont have a tech 2 but have summit close"
As long as its not a "Snap On" reader Briy2, I'll come and see you. ;D

Yup took it all the way up to 6000 revs so almost to the red line and then I wussed out thinking I might do damage to the gear box  :-\

After which it ran perfectly for another twenty minutes or until I arrived at my destination.

I would have thought that would have no trouble, due to the 2.2 being compliant with EOBD/OBDII. Did he try, or assume? Earlier Omegas were not EOBD/OBDII, so would need the extra modules on older Snap-Off stuff.

Dunno tbh as he's now away on holiday, so I'll have to wait either until he gets back or Bri or someone else can help out.

Taking those points onboard (as they say :-[) what I think you're saying is anyone with a code scanner should be able to read, and cancel ???, the codes on this Omega ?

If that's the case then maybe I should rephrase the question in another thread ?

If a member is nearby, and offering a freebie code read, I'd take up that offer :y

I'd stick away from any programming or reconfiguration using any device other than genuine GM Tech2.

Ok thanks TB.

I've never used a scanning device before so have no idea how it works or what its limits are. However I assumed that if the ICU was expecting a "service" to be performed then maybe the scanner could override that particular code and prevent the control indicator from lighting up ? Is that how it works or am I a long way off ?

BTW I wasnt expecting a freebie, just someone who knows what they're doing  ;)
