London tourist multi-ticket...
« on: 05 September 2012, 10:40:46 »

On the 17th myself and Swmbo are off to London for 4 nights. It's her 40th on the 15th so it's her birthday present.
Last night I was trying to buy tickets for the usual tourist places.
I've came across one, called the London Gold Bundle, it gets us access to the Eye, Tussauds,London tower,Tower bridge experience, a hop on-hop off London open top bus and a hop on - hop off river cruise.

It's the last 2 I'm not sure about. On the online application form you have to state which days you will visit the attractions.

This is where I get confused... The form only has one 'slot' for the bus and river tour. The actual line in the form reads......state which day you would like to do the open top bus/ river cruise....And I have to give them a date.

Which makes me think I have to do both on the same day? I don't really want to be ' forced' to do both on the same day so have I got this right or not?
Anyone done this kind of thing lately? Any places you can recommend? I know she desperately wants to see a show when we are there.
Any help/tips or advice greatly appreciated.
 TIA  :y :y

I would have a look at the prices of what you want to do first before buying that sort of ticket.  You can get a lot of 2 for 1 offers (especially if you are coming by train) that may make it cheaper.  If you shop at Tesco and have clubcard vouchers, these can save you a fortune too.

I wouldn't really bother with the bus personally, but the river cruise is great.  Tower of London is very good as it the bridge.  If you are OK walking about, I would suggest you look round St Katherines Dock (just behind the Guoman Tower Hotel, near tower bridge), then a walk along the river (other side of the bridge) along to Borough Market, then carry on past the Globe (worth a visit if you can get tickets), then Lunch at Doggets (pub) just on the other side of Blackfriers bridge.

Then of course you have Covent Garden etc and the horror that is Oxford Street (unless of course you like shopping).

Just to add, this golden ticket is £90.50 each, so works out a lot cheaper than paying for each thing separately.

With River Cruise, take a Thames Clipper to the O2 and back. Lot cheaper than dedicated cruise.

I would not bother with that gold ticket,  it will be too restrictive with where and when you should be. Just let the weekend flow  :y

And if you're staying in the centre a Zone 1/2 all day ticket for the tube is only about £5 and gets you where you want to be quite easily.

If you want a recommendation for a show, we had a few days in London in July and went to see Blood Brothers which I can very highly recommend.  It's only in a small theatre, but that just makes it nicer in my opinion.

Get an Oyster card, pays for itself I one journey almost. But most of central London you can easily walk, fir example Waterloo to Covent Garden is only 10 minute walk....

Don't know London at all, we are staying 2 mins from Euston station. I assume that's quite central?

Yep, I'd go along with that. Oyster card saves the hassle of queuing for day traveller cards.  :y You can buy day traveller cards for the duration in one go if you like but Oyster card works out cheaper and is much more convenient. A single Day Traveller ticket is over £6 for Zone 1 & 2 now. As said above, most of the places are within walking distance but you must experience the 'tube madness'.
On Tube escalators, remember to stand on the right hand side or you will get flattened in the rush.

The London Eye tickets are usually pretty flexible on times providing that you use it on the correct day. A single ticket on the open top bus is about £27 each and Tussauds is about £38 per person.   :o :o We've done the River Boat Cruise and Lunch a few times but it ain't cheap. You can get better deals for the attractions if booked with your train ticket.
Make sure you pick up a tube guide to stick in your pocket. It makes working out the stops a bit easier.  :y
You will be surprised at how close the famous places are to each other when you get there.  :y

Have fun and enjoy your stay.
