Tunnies Olympic pictures
« on: 08 September 2012, 08:50:55 »

So I was lucky enough to go to the Paralympics on Thursday night, got to see Peacocks 100m win & David Weir 800m win.  :D :D  :y

MrsT actually got the tickets, I also managed to get another pair of tickets, which I gave to MotherT for her birthday. I must stay, compared to the Olympics, you get a lot more "bang" for your buck, we saw 5 x 200m finals because of the various classes, couple of 100m finals too.

I took a video of the 800m win, but it just does not convey the electric atmosphere there. Everytime a GBR lined up for a sport, the cheer and roar was huge. It peaked at Peakcocks Win, followed, minutes later by Discuss Dan's Silver.

But the loudest and best moment was David Weir charging for the line for the 800, I cannot describe how amazing it was. Never been so proud to be British!  8)  :y :y

Was the Opening Ceremonies to everyone's taste? - Probably not, but they were well executed & put together very well. I think everyone who poo poo'd it all, don't consider the efforts involved.

Did GBR as Olympic hosts c0ck it up? Like everyone said we would? - No! It was seamless getting in & out, the print at home tickets, zero queues to get in & out. Venues are world class and look amazing. I'll admit they stuffed up the ticketing front, that could have been done better. They could also have put more than one bar in the stadium!  :o

Can we afford the Olympics? - Probably not, but we often buy things we cannot afford for the pleasure of them.

Was it worth it? - Absolutely feking yes!  :y :y :y :y :y

The Orbit:

The Stadium:

Another interesting thing was the remote controlled cars or "mini Mini's" they used to retrieve the Dicuss, shot puts and so on from the field, one person would be driving it up to the point of collection by the official:

It was then driven back to the main area, to be prepared for being thrown again:

Discuss Dan:

Peakcock setting up for 100m

After the win:

At the end of the night, everyone was heading for the tube/trains, I went the other way, I wanted to get some shots of the park at night, it was worth it:

These resized versions just don't do it justice, so some full res ones here:

impressive pictures and good skies apart from picture 3 which has the usual UK poor quality light syndrome. What lens?

Did not take my SLR, took my point & shoot, Panasonic TZ10.

Quite impressed with the shots on full zoom (12 x Optical)

Great pictures.I wish i could have gone but Mrs L took me to Cornwall bodyboarding instead.I went to the Olympics Beach Vollleyball which was fun but not an Olympic sport by any stretch, great stadium and Army troops security and entry was top notch.Really wanted to go to Athletics.
Great stuff and have no doubts the 'Legacy' will be proven as well.
