« on: 08 September 2012, 22:43:04 »

I can't recommend anyone (other than local to me) but it'd cost you if you did respray it all. I reckon you could easily spend £1500 to £2000 for the whole lot. And would you be better off spending that kind of money on A N Other 'better'/newer car?  :-\

Which is why my Omega is still on my drive next to my Merc  ::) ::)

FWIW I spent around £1000 on paintwork on my Omega the other year having some scabs on the doors and rear arches sorted & the bonnet painting due to 150 000 miles worth of stone chips on its front edge.

Silver it is then  :-X :)

Often wondered how much a full respray would cost , maybe if the prep work was done first by yourself it would cut down on costs ... an off sanding party  ;D :y

bang on :y   but will be a different tone and mix..

friday , clit was given to the painter for roof paint as carbonfiber like  cover  also fade under the sun.. and I'm fed up paying for it everyyear :P

friday evening,  I cleaned the sticky carbonfiber (took 2 hours), sanded the roof alone (3.5 hours) with 320 grid not to scratch anything until I met the original primer.. and I feel pain everywhere now.. besides paints become so expensive that standox 1 kg metallic paint is around 67£ ???   only paint stuff (base coat, final coat, laquer , cleaner thinner and paint thinner, filters , sand papers) cost 110£ (except epoxy) :(

now for painting costs , sanding the paint and removing the old one is the most tiresome and time consuming part as second hand car buyers here) get thickness measured (mostly) before buying.. and as you can guess this is the part where painters ask for a lot of money..
and they mostly just fade it with sand and paint over the old one.. and preparation involving  sanding several coats takes a lot of time so will reduce the costs considerably..

I'd advise against that .
I've just painted the front bumper ,side trims ,lower doors and sills on mine and can tell you that unless you get the prep spot on you WILL be disappointed with the end result. Even the cost of paint ain't cheap ! I used 1/2 Lt 2K primer ,1Lt of mixed Z489 ( all the way from bonny Scotland due to the water based p*** being the only paint available here ) and 1Lt each of Upol 2 K lacquer + hardner and 5lt of good quality 2k thinners. Plus sundries like panel wipe , tack cloths , prod paper  and paint strainers......Probably came to about 200 sterling and that was only for the panels above ,granted there is some material left but hopefully I'll never need it  ::)
The time consumed in getting it right from preping each panel was considerable as I wanted it 100% but I have to say that several times during the event and although I enjoyed it, I thought "Wouldn't like to do this for a living ..."
You could save some time / money by removing panels ,trim ,badges etc but if you want a job done that you will feel it was worth it all leave it to a known and trusted bodyman/shop.

Mine would benefit from a full respray but i wont because of the cost , the car's 15 yrs old now so can expect to just keep touching up and cutting out ... worst place for rust being the rear arches and if need be ill cut the bad bits out and replace with fibre glass ....rear door corners will get the same treatment  :) after all the cutting out i'll at least have a lighter car  ::) ::) ::) ;D

I could recommend my painter, but he's near me, and that's a long way for a paint job.

Hi Marie, have just read your post about resprays. we have an exellent small body shop not far away from us on thruxton circuit ind est. goes under the name of Border Coachworks, quite sure Rodger would do an admirable job for you as he used to take the spray work that the larger shops couldn't handle. besides you could always under sling it  and fly it to thruxton ! we are some 70 miles from you,so i would expect that someone from the mt section may know a shop .
