MOT pass on my trust old 2.2
« on: 12 September 2012, 13:50:06 »

Since i got the Elite, my trusty old steed was left really. Less & less use, in the end we SORN'd it due to road tax due.

Its not really been used in almost a year, but today it passed its MOT  :D

Since the i had the issue with exhaust on the 3.2, it highlighted again we needed a spare Omega. So decided to get the 2.2 legal again, in last 8 months I had not even started it  :-[ I popped on a battery jumper and it started first time!

As I suspected, my local MOT garage picked on the track rod ends being non-adjustable, so got an advisory on that. But interestingly it did not fail on a fault I knew it had, which is what he failed it on last time  ::) - Anyone want to guess what it was?

Gixer will be pleased to know its no longer on Falkens, all of them were shagged, got about 30k out of them. Which is low for me, last set of Goodyears I got 48k out of them.

4 new tyres were hard to justify, for basically a spare car, so I got a set of CDX alloys, with KU31 Kumho's with about 6mm depth all around for an excellent price. Thanks to PaulS  :y

Given her a good jet wash & the old girl is looking good, few pictures:

Elite is nice, but when you have had a car for 7 years, you miss it!

Good Result Mark, and the CDX Alloys perk the old girl up a bit visually. :y

Unsure on the alloys, DTM used to have a CDX in same colour as mine, keep thinking its his  ;D

Next is to look at LPG, it needs tweaking, on petrol its running well. But LPG its lagging quite a bit, wondering if its worth deleting current mapping

Always good to have a spare car on the drive!

Perhaps when the suspension upgrades go on my 3.2 i'll get my enthusiasm back for it and it won't just be 'The spare car'!

Trouble is the DTi is a far better for my daily commute and site visits and 620 - 650 miles to a tank makes up for the lack of leather, autobox and the acceleration of the 3.2!

You know the solution, but it means having a spare stash of £ notes :(

Other way is a 0% APR card for 12 months to buy the kit, I think its the way I have to go, if I LPG the 3.2

While I would love to do it (bundle of used notes permitting) I still don't think i'd use it as much as the DTi so the payback time would be much longer, I'm also not as precious over someone opening their door against the DTi or stone chips from daily use etc.

Have to say I am in exactly the same boat Andy.  I did seriously consider fitting LPG to my 3.2 estate, but as you say I would then have had to use it more in order to claw back the outlay.  But then I would just worry about damaging it in car parks, etc...  :-\

The solution... buy an identical black elite estate with a dti lump, and keep the 3.2 for best!  ;D

I just went for the identical Z157 Star Silver III Elite Saloon approach with mine!  ::) ;D
Theory was that if I'd bought a dud i'd have spare panels, wheels etc for the 3.2!
Had to retrofit a CID though 'cause I had one laying aound.

One tip... Double check which car you are filling at the petrol station, not a problem on your daily car but you have to think about it when you are in the other car.... Or get an account with Lazydocker!

Someone call? ::) :D

Tunnie, I wouldn't advise deleting the mapping... It could end in tears ;) If you take it to Londinium then we can try to meet up towards the end of next week/next weekend and have a looksy at it ;)
