DEX III, Is this ok?
« on: 15 September 2012, 15:46:18 »

Thanks to a friendly OOFer who will help top up my ATF tomorrow. However due to my superb planning skills, I have not sourced any Fuchs 4000. So is this ok as it is reasonably priced and easily available.

Or avoid and get the Comma alternative?

All recommendations welcome.

You'll need to physically check what's written on the bottle :y

The VX oil is given as 19 40 763, so would expect to see that somewhere in the small print :y also the owners manaual should give the spec needed, again expect to see that on the bottle :y

Potentially you could need 9 litres of the stuff :-\, and lots of shampoo for afterwards ;D

My understanding is that Dexron III is Dexron III regardless of the bottle it comes in :-\, but double check the small print on the bottle before buying :y

Yes Tunnie. That would be my first choice. However unless Opie did Sunday deliveries, I dont think I can use them for an ATF top up that we are going to do tomorrow. Hence looking at alternatives. My fault for not being organised.

Yes, my understanding is that Dex III is a GM spec that manufacturers comply with. I would normally go for it, just a bit wary given the rep that Castrol have on OOF with regards to engine oil.

Dont need 9L. Its just a top up.

:y better to have enough rather than get stuck in and run out ::)

I used to use the Castrol one to top up my auto Granadas, never did a fluid change on them though :-\ they used to leak it quickly enough to keep fresh ;D

Comma is OK for a top up

Have used that in mine without any problems that I know of. I seems to match to required spec.

I try to use Fuch Titan 4000, but use Coma in emergencys.  Maybe placebo effect, but I reckon the Fuch makes it feel smoother.

Although, as they are similar priced, worth it, even if placebo effect only

Update. Used the Castrol Dex III. Issues with gearbox have resolved completely. Seems to be a reasonably priced option if like me you plan things poorly.  :-[
