I would be interested to know how it can be done for that money. Genuine question.  :y The regular guys obviously have a cheaper supplier as I can't beat that doing it myself using Trade Club as supplier. Obvious answer is to shop around for reputable parts I suppose.
I assume either Gates or ContiTech as cambelt kit supplier.  :-\

Trade Club for Cambelt kit, Water pump, Auxiliary belt and Anti-freeze comes to around £216 + vat so you got a very good deal as far as I can see.  :y

Doing it myself when I could sit on my arse and have it done cheaper is mildly annoying.  ;) ;D ;D

Should this be in General Car Chat.  :-\

It's easily done by sourcing the parts from an economical supplier.
I paid £110 delivered, last year for a continental belt kit and an aftermarket waterpump(don't know the source, just took it out of the box and bolted it on). Buying this sort of part from Vauxhall is just extravagant, as none of it was only available from them. As your price of 2.5 times as much proves.
The labour rate is easily explained by lower overheads. After all, main dealers make their money from servicing and repairs rather than actually selling cars. Those lovely showrooms have to paid for somehow.

Easy enough to get a ContiTech cambelt kit near me but I'm not finding it as easy to source a Gates kit.  :-\
I don't mind saving a bit on the water pump but I would have preferred a Gates cambelt, if only because I've used them on previous cars. Trade Club want £111.81 + vat for cambelt kit whereas BuyPartsBy want £68.50 + vat I assume, for a Conti belt kit.
Decisions decisions.  :-\

Edited by me : I meant BuyPartsBy. Euro Car Parts want £127 for a cambelt kit.

I can only agree,I've just ordered a cambelt kit,aux belt, water pump,4 plugs, air, oil, cabin fuel filters,2x4.5ltrs semi synthetic, ignition coil and leads..total cost including delivery £201.00 all from Buypartsby. obviously this for a PFL 2.0 ltr but I would certainly use them for my 3.0 and 3.2 parts as well. :y

Indeed - there are some parts that are only dealer only parts - cam cover gaskets spring immediately to mind.

There are other parts that I do go to a dealer, because the GM part is a better part, but where a pattern would suffice - air filters being a classic example.

There are other parts where I get parts from a dealer based on price and (no) hassle factor, and the part is as good as any other - oil, plugs etc

And there are parts where the GM price is ridiculous, or the quality has dropped off the GM part, so I go out in the pattern market.

So, as I'm soon to purchase a cambelt kit, where does OOF stand on them. I've had a look through previous threads regarding OE/OEM parts but I must admit that I nearly always buy from a Vauxhall dealer anyway. For something this important I wouldn't even consider un-branded so that doesn't come in to this equation.

If I go GM cambelt kit, I'll get supplied a Gates kit anyway, but if I go BuyPartsby I'll end up with a ContiTech kit. I won't be looking any further than those two suppliers.

I suppose what I'm asking is, what is the OOF preference, Gates (sourced from motor factor) or ContiTech, seeing as they both appear to be well respected. Previous threads imply that either of these are decent so it seems to come down to the price difference.  :-\

Gates, Contitech & SKF kits are all equivalent to genuine, IMHO.

All have SKF bearings, SKF and Gates have gates belts. Can't remember if the Conti one is their own belt or a gates one but I would buy whichever of these you can get cheapest.

Have always got the Contitech kits from Buypartsby - cheapest, fast delivery and no issues once fitted :y

Used to use genuine Vx water pumps until prices got silly - last one I got was a QH - reasonably priced and quality looked ok.
