Got in the car tonight and jesus trunderling down the road and the front door pins are so ruddy loud I've put tape on the bottom of the pin itself so when it pops up the base of the pin touches the door card but to no avail has anyone got any solutions to this ruddy annoying rattle

have you removed door pins? maybe not hit back in properly -only a guess mate

Depends on which door cards you  have

Options are:

1. Remove pins and wrap the base with some self adhesive velcro, the fluffy side obviously.
2. Remove door cards and CAREFULLY dismantle the pin surround. Replace the furry part inside the surround.
     Furry part pence from VX, plastic parts add up to about £70...
3. Remove late facelift door cards (with pin surrounds) and replace with early facelift door cards (no pin surrounds).
4. Remove door cards and tension the pin rod with a rubber band or similar to the door.
5. Swap Early facelift pins (pointy top)with late pins (square top). Only works with late pins in early door cards as the early pins are smaller.
 
Options 1 and 2 work well for a time. Options 3 and 5 work permanently. Option 4 is fiddly and not very effective.
I've used Options 1,3 and 4, so stand by the results. Option 5 is basically the same as Option 3 so will work. Others have tried Option 2, and I believe it to be effective too.

Thanks for the informative reply. I'll be sourcing some fluffy Velcro later on. Insulation tape no longer works. I have an early facelift (2001) but pins are square top with surround

take the doorcard off and you will find that the top bit of plastic has come unstuck from the card this causes the top of the doorcard to vibrate causing the the doorpin to rattle    simply use some real good adhesive to re-stick

Oooo, you must have been lucky

If only that was the cause of the majority of doorpin rattles .  But an easy, often overlooked, check/fix

If only that was the cause of the majority of doorpin rattles .  But an easy, often overlooked, check/fix

The plastic strip is fixed by plastic pins through the fibre panel. Most of the pins sheared of on my passenger door when I had to replace the door locking motor recently.
It rattled before but it is much worse now

I am going to try using polyester resin to bond it in place (in the hope that it will soak in and key into the fibre board rather than just pulling the top layer off.)

IME the only thing that really works, for me, is to bend the door pin rod so the door pin leans back in the door card surround, thereby taking out the play. Means removing the door cars though, unless forcing the plastic door pin, but that risks breakage.

Tried various stick on bits of tape and Velcro. All dislodged in time.

I'm at the stage of having to do that to TBE I reckon.

Bend it back towards back of car, or back towards the door/away from driver? Or both?

If your taking the door cards off, you might as well throw a set of early FL cards on  '99-'00 should do it

Ended up with this solution by chance, as the door cards that I got from Rob happened to be from a W reg

Not so much as a tap from them since

bent mine out, as you look at it from sat in the car. So the top of the pin leans towards the glass.
