I've just bought an 03 DTi GLS Saloon from a friend of my old mans who's a used car dealer . The body work is very nice apart from a cracked front bumper and its supposed to have covered only 132,000 miles. Anyway driving it home from Anglesey on Sunday I noticed that the steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake gaiter were very worn, much more so than the ones on my other diesels which have covered 122,000 and 140,000 miles so I decided to look on the DVLA website when I got home. Anyway, turns out i've had my pants pulled down and the car had an mot in 2007 with 172,000 miles up it but when it was retested in 2008 it had only 84500 miles

Now my question is. I intended to break my red 2000 CDX DTi with a genuine 122.000 miles to make the 2003 a better car which I was going to keep. But now I know the 2003 car has covered 221,000 miles i'm not so sure.

 Which one would you keep?

I trust you bought it cheap. If not, you should be paying them a visit armed with trading standards, VOSA & who ever else that applies.

If its been clocked as far back as 2007, not really car dealers fault. Although you could do them for it on paper, but if its a family friend could cause issues?

I'd keep the good low mileage one, DTi's appear to be good for 300k. Which yours is miles away from

I paid £600 for it with a 12 month ticket but he has offered me £100 back.

I should add, it drives really well and if it wasn't for the steering wheel wear I wouldn't have known. Oh and it used to be a taxi in Chester of all places

My old 406 Hdi was also a taxi in a previous life,just passed 196 k and drives very tightly still and is probably one of the best cars I've ever owned(and there's been a few )

That is a cheap DTi even if advertised with the original mileage. The question you have to ask your self now is, if you sell on the car I would have thought you will have to declare the correct mileage

I would do. I'll talk to DVLA about getting the right mileage on it. I did HPI it and it didn't show up that the clock had been changed

So the guy's offered you your money back + £100.00. Do you think you'll get more than that with the correct mileage stated?

No, I paid £600 for it and he's offered me £100 back so i've ended up paying £500

if possible swap your engine to the new model body..  otherwise keep your old car..

yes.. high mileage diesels generally give turbo or injector problems..

Its got the weirdest leather seats i've ever seen. Not like any other Omega which makes me think they've been recovered
