Dear friends

The red arrow below shows FRONT of the vehicle.

A (aircon fan #1, driver's side) :
does not work (...though he DID work on the bench,when removed lately)

B (aircon fan #2, passenger side) :
works alone

C (switch) :
brand new (temperature range the same as that of the old one)

D (main fan) :
does not work (...though he DID work on the bench,when changing the switch a few days ago)

Fuses : O.K.

Relays : tested, O.K.

So what next ?
A broken wire ?

...When driving, no overheating , ....but....when I stop th car, I have to wait for the lonely aircon cooler doing its best to cool the water down.

Of course, he fails to do the job, as the aircon cooler prevents any air flow to reach the main cooler.
The temperature is going slowly up....and up....and up....I'm afraid of overheating,so I restart the engine for a while, so that water pump can circulate coolant...and then wait again.....and then restart the engine again.....

In a hot weather it takes 15-20 minutes !
In a cold weather it takes a bit less.

Somewhere, Andy B (I think) posted how to test the fans from the fan test socket in the relay box.  Might be worth a search.

The system is quite a complex setup of relays to bring them in depending on A/C setting, and temps.

Well, mine looks a bit different , but the thing arrowed must be the fan tester (ignore those numbers on the relays) :



It has 5 legs :





1 - brown+grey
2 - black+blue
3 - EMPTY
4 - black+white
5 - brown+lilac
6 - red+blue

Now...let me try to understand....

At first, I am to connect   leg 4   to    leg 5   (jumper)

With ignition OFF :

 - I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 1 : all 3 fans at LOW speed

 - I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 2 : all 3 fans at LOW speed  (again)

 - I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 4 : MAIN fan at HIGH speed, others sleeping

 - I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 5 : one of the aux fans at HIGH speed, others sleeping

With ignition ON (engine NOT running) :

 - I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 2 : MAIN fan at LOW speed, others at HIGH speed.

It also says: "Test terminals 1, 4 & 5 also"...okay, but what should happen with 1,4,5 ?

As all fusing is ok, could you check for live supply at each of the fan connections when they should be operating? May help the diagnosis?

Sorry , but the above is a QUESTION.
E.g. :
 
- If I connect   battery+     terminal to leg 1 : should all 3 fans work at LOW speed ?
...etc

I'm a bit panicky as my fan tester has only 5 legs, yours seem to have 6.
I'm not even sure if my colours are identical to yours :

1 - BROWN+grey   (or might be    light blue   , I can't decide)
2 - BLACK+blue
3 - EMPTY
4 - BLACK+white
5 - BROWN+lilac
6 - RED+blue


So at the moment I'm just wondering if I managed to understand those instructions at all.

Apologies Peti,

I didn't mean for my post to be confusing, I know these issues can be frustrating. I was thinking that if your fuses, relays and fans are all known to be operational, the issues may well be in the continuity of the supply circuits. Thought process..., did you remove the fans because of the non-operational issue to test them on the bench or were they removed for another reason. (I'd have tested them as situated, personal choice, if it was the only fault). Have any of the connections been disturbed. Have you unplugged and replugged all components to 'clean' the connections (unplugging and plugging repeatedly can achieve this sometimes), including relays?

Well...practically everything was disturbed (renewal).

All 3 fans proved to be working on my kitchen table.

As I was experiencing overheating lately , I thought I buy a brand new swith ( the white one, marked "C" on my pic), as the old one looked really bad.

I was hoping this sole movement solves the problem in itself.

It did not.

So I pulled off all FUSES : they are O.K., no testing needed.

I also pulled out all RELAYS ,and tested them using a light bulb...as soon as current arrived to    leg 86   , they did allow current from    leg 30   to     leg 87    as they should.

So I seem to be stuck here....I was trying to understand those pictures...
