DT investigation into the overseas aid budget has revealed the following:

I'm sure you are glad that the £333 average per worker or £666 per net tax payer is very well spent and you get a warm glow from this and you would beg the Government to keep increasing this fund as promised for such worthy purposes as you could not possibly spend this £666 with reduced taxes more wisely yourself on you and your family.

Foreign aid should be restricted to the poorest of countries such as Malawi or Yemen and the money should only be spent on health, education, agriculture or infrastructure projects.  For example, a great deal of good can be done with very little money improving access to clean water or improving schools in remote villages.  As mentioned, helping with the aftermath of natural disasters is another example where money and resources should be sent! 

The British government should follow the Chinese example and rather than just sending money which is likely to end up in a Swiss bank account, they should get directly involved! So for example, rather than just funding the building of a new road in Kenya, a British company should go and build it! The job would be done to a decent standard, providing jobs in both countries and it's a win win situation!!  However, this will never happen while we have these namby pamby idiots in charge who are so afraid of the 'colonialist' label!!  How the Chinese must laugh!! 

Current British government policy of ringfencing the aid budget and making it law that 0.7% of GDP is spent on foreign aid is plainly nonsense for all to see, except for our liberal political 'elite'!!

we need to look after our own people first.
lets face it, we as individuals only give to charity what we can without making ourselves short.
the same should be for the government, put our house in order first.

I agree Tony,thing is I do'nt see any aid coming back our way,just the usual shafting, but just lately I notice there is'nt vaseline with it any more....must be something to do with goverment cuts in spending

Thing is, Ken, how the hell do you change it

 Voting is no good, basically due to the masses following like sheep and just going mainly for the big two. They have shown that they are basically the same in power.
It just seems all we get thrown at us on the telly, is give to this, give to that, give to everything all over the world. As a previous poster said..charity begins at home, so lets sort out our old people first, and the 'genuine' homeless, cancer charities, etc then and only then see whats left in the pot.
I'd like to know where overseas aid really goes to. For all the billions and billions that have been spent from many countries over the years, there does not seem to be any improvement.
If this money was doing any good, why do all the charities want us to shell out too. Oxfam, etc, reckon they can change lives on £3 a month, so what is our government money being spent on.
Bear in mind, this money has been paid out for donkey's years
