newbie needing help!!!!
« on: 23 September 2012, 11:20:24 »

hi folks just new on here so first of all hello  :) managed to wangle an omega 2 litre gls automatic the other day just for a bit of a project, its got a bit of a problem though, started off when you started the engine it would idle normally, go into gear and drive normally, but when you put it in park it would rev up slightly and then engine would cut out, then yesterday thought a would take it a bit of a drive so its not just sitting doin nothin, was driving normally untill I came back out of super market, started it up, went to put it into drive and engine cut out straight away, tried re starting and putting it into gear but everytime was the same, engine would just cut out straight away, left it for a while and then it went into gear and drove, not perfectly though, revs were up and down all time when idling, sorry for massive post but not got a clue what it could be, any help would be much appreciated....

Hello and welcome to the site. :y

I'd look to the idle control valve, maybe it just needs a clean.
Also worth checking over the rest of the inlet system for leaks...

I'd be looking at cleaning ICV and Throttle Body (and breathers whilst there). Also, look in Maintenence Guides for how to do Paperclip Test to read engine codes :y

Same symptoms as when my maf failed.  Try disconnecting (unplugging) maf and see if it makes a difference.  If not I'd go with dirty/sticky ICV.

little update on car had it over to ma mates yesterday and everything seems to be running fine now so thanks for help, one more bit of advice though, the steering seems very heavy at low speeds, fluid levels are fine, guy from AA said that their is a sensor that controls the steering, could this cause the problem, its a W reg 2.0 automatic, cheers again folks

As far as I know 'servotronic steering' was only fitted to the v6's, it's a system that increases p/s assistance at low speeds.
If you don't have servotronic then your problems may be caused by a weak pump, does the steering get lighter if you apply some throttle at parking speeds?

Also did your Mate have do do anything to the car or did it start ticking over by it's self?

nah steering doesnt go lighter if you apply throttle mate, just very heavy when parking, and very annoying..

never spoke to ma mate as he was out when picked car up, his dad said he had removed throttle body and cleaned it up and fingers crossed it seems to run fine now, would this have caused the problem of cutting out and reving up!!!!
