yes that's where a mate lost an arm. And the oncoming rider was killed.

I nearly had a head-on with a bike in the Westfield on one of the straights on that road.

Pulled out for an overtake, saw nothing coming but something didn't "feel right", so ducked back in and waited for a second look. Then saw a bike drop down off his back wheel and pass me doing a ton plus. Had his lights on, just not very effective pointing up at the trees.

Also nearly got taken out on my pushbike a couple of weeks back. Stupid bint in a soft roader decided it was fine to overtake a car with a cyclist coming the other way. I now climb over the airfield perimeter fence to avoid taking that road.

Up at the airfield it's common to hear a sports bike go up to the limiter through the whole gearbox. It's a great piece of road, has to be said. Problem is, it's at its' most satisfying when you're into 3 figures, and that's in the Westfield. Half that again on a bike, I suppose. Maybe on the odd occasions when I'm travelling that route in the early hours of the morning I'll have a play but it's suicide on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

it's well known amongst bikers. Said incident was the end of all road riding for almost all of us. Track only. Luckily I wasn't there that day.

More race tracks I say. But then there's the "not in my back yard" brigade.

Strangely enough, having attended too many fatal RTA's on that stretch of road it was one of the few places it actually played on my mind

I must admit that I have a real craving for a bike again, although I'm not 100% certain I trust myself

I mustn't, although I do have a soft spot for the 600FX (as you already know ) Besides, been offered a cheap Yam too. 

I know, in reality, that a sports bike is out of the equation unless the surgeon manages a magic fix on my back though

If there's ever a road where you need to consider what would happen if you met yourself coming the other way it's that one.

The fact that it starts off with lovely 60MPH bends in quick succession at the Basingstoke end and gradually opens out into sweeping "silly speed" bends with long straights where you just want to teleport yourself to the next bend is what does it, I reckon. You can start off sane and it just eggs you on.

FX isnt really a sports bike though.Its "can do a bit of everything bike". Probably still a bit too sporty a riding position in your current predicament though. Yams are fine,but tbh the only reason I have a Honda is the build quality.With regular basic servicing they will go on forever. Mine has 38,000 on the clock (high for a bike) but it never misses a beat,and it stands outside in all weathers.
I honestly think my biking days are probably over tbh. .........Cant risk my licence,eyesight & reactions aint wot they woz and arthritis gives me trouble after an hour or so in the saddle. Cant complain,Ive had a good run.

In my younger, more foolish days, we used to do the circular route from home (Basingrad), down the 339, up to Hook via Odiham and down the A30 back home... Record was 20 mins (at most) on the second circuit.

Albs, I know the FX well... I had one I know it wouldn't suit at the moment But neither does the other one I've been offered

That's certainly "pressing on".

Indeed... Easy to do on 2 wheels along all of those roads TBH, I think the "record time" I refer to we actually went M3 from 5 to 6 instead of A30, but even so it's a shockingly high average speed and not something I'd be foolish enough to repeat (I hope )

+ 1  Biking is in my blood , always had bikes since i was 14 ... if im ever fit again i would go for a sit up and beg type one like my old ZRX1200S

First owned bike was a CZ175 trials with 0-60 in half an hour  had some fun on it in the fields in my early teens then progressed onto DT250MX , then i found what women had to offer
