Got a guy interested in one of my cars, unfortunately he's in Ireland, anyway basically he wants to bring the money half cash, half via a bank transfer. He wants to transfer half into one of my bank accounts and half into another. As he is with an Irish bank, will he be able to do an electronic transfer when he is over here, and it'll be done within a couple of hours say?

Also from Gatwick or Heathrow is there a train station nearby?

hi del i think it depends if from southern or northern ireland. Also heathrow has a a tube station called hatton cross and i believe Gatwick has a overground station in the airport itself.

cant see why not, afterall, its no harder than anyone using a visa debit or credit card overseas

If it's the south Del, make sure you are dealing in the right currency, price wise

That's what I'm concerned about, if it can take a couple of hours then no worries he can't wait with me etc, but if it's days then its no good  .

Phone up your bank and ask them how long the transfer will take.

Phoning your bank will only tell half the story. The remitting bank may hold the transfer for a while, receiving bank too. So a day each for example - 2 days. But your bank will only be able to tell you the time it takes for them to process once they see the credit hit their system.
Unfortunately this happens all too often. Transfers are instant in reality, once the button has been hit. Butif the originating bank account is in euro and yours in GBP, then there may well be another bank in between (correspondant bank) who may hold for a short time.
That said, it could all happen within a couple of hours.
So not much help really, other than to say I'd be wary.

All is sorted now, however a bank transfer was a no go due to a 5 day waiting time.

Why not tranfer the cash as a deposit and bring cash with him when the transfer has cleared - But pay the cash into the bank if in any doubt regards forgeries and when all monies are clear let the car go. 

I would do that or similar with any large cash tranaction regardless of where the customer originates.
