This is too wide a spec - you need to narrow down what it is you want - music, photos, facebook, internet  etc or just a reliable phone with text and email alerts.

I get on absolutely fine with a Nokia with a decent camera.

Also what do you want to pay?

Oh Tony what a question..... there are a few different threads of late all really saying similar things.
Everyone has there preference like cars, clothes anything really.
I have a Galaxy 3 and love it. It does everything I need and super quick. I no longer use my laptop as its quicker to use the phone.
Hope this helps mate

A mate at work has taken delivery of the iphone & it's gone back, because of problems. Problems aside he said he's not impressed.
I have a Samsung SII & I can't fault it, quite a few guys at work have the SII & SIII's & love them.
I use Google Maps quite a lot & because Android is part of Google the App is fantastic, however the iphone maps are shite & not accurate at all.

Plus, with the Galaxy you won't need to use Itunes.

That makes it all the more worthwhile - I hate bloody Itunes!

Seriously though - my missus went through the Iphone phase but hasnt looked back since getting her Galaxy SII.  I have the same phone and will not hesitate to go with Samsung when I next upgrade.

Iphones are notoriously buggy and not terribly intuitive whereas the galaxy is known for it's user friendly stability.

Odd, they are known for completely the opposite.

My works 3G-S has been ultra stable, and dead easy to use. Giving Android a try currently in a Sensation XE. I'd say iPhone is far more intuitive.

Tony H - Its all down to personal preference, you will get a lot of "iPhone is shite, get SIII" also get the oposite from the Apple fan boys saying its best built phone in the world  ::)

What you have to do is try both, borrow friends devices if you can, see how you get on with it.

All market leading phones are generally well built, quite stable and good to use.

That's not exactly true ;) They just aren't distinguishing between different towns with the same name ::) Anyway, Google Maps will be back on the iPhone by Christmas ;)

As Tunnie says, iOS is notorious for its stability ;) As for Samsung having a friendly interface... Not in my experience, although that was several years ago :-X ::) My biggest complaint with the S3 is the size... If I wanted a mini tablet I would buy one ;) :D

TBH Tony, it's all down to what you want. As Tunnie says, best bet is to try and have a play on some handsets and see how you get on. Worst case scenario, go into a phone shop and have a play ;) :y

Best thing is to go to a shop, see both in the flesh, check that the S3 isn't too big. As if it is, your decision is made.

Both have strong points and weak points, you need to decide what is important to you, and get the one that fits best.

Murph - the iPhone is stupidly consistent, thus intuative. Android, by its nature, lacks consistency, which makes it clunky to use. Thats not necessarily a downside. But iPhone wins hands down on interface and stability.s

Pretty much everyone in my family has iPhone's. I have a 4, and will be upgrading to an iPhone 5 in December, both sons' have 4s', they're all really good phones. I have to say I much prefer these to any of the other phones on the market, and even for a thick-it such as myself I find it easy to use  :y.

Currently have a Sony Experia S. Getting on well with it, does pretty much everything I could imagine needing a phone for :y with T Mobile, on a £41 per month contract, which is basically unlimited calls, texts and data 8)

The data allowance is the critical part of a smart phone contract, tread carefully :y

+1

I have an android now and although I really like it, it does slow down from time to time and display some odd bugs. On the other hand my old iphone 4 had no problems at all. Just wish I hadnt broken it. Google maps should be on the iphone by the end of the year.

The main problem with the iphone is that it is ridiculously expensive.

The wole idea with the iPhone and touch screen is, anyone can just pick it up and use it.

Even my Mum, who has had android for years and swears at it constantly, just picked my iPad and away she went. ...off to iplayer to watch bloody Eastenders ;D

iPad and iPhone have almost identical operating systems btw.

Although I would say, as with any touch screen, the virtual keyboard can be frustrating and convenient in equal measure, and fat finger syndrome can send the phone off doing the wrong thing with mistaken commands quite easily, but you'll soon get used to that and being Carefull how you handle the phone.

And as said, the apple os is very very stable, don't believe anyone who says it isn't. :)
