On a a bike as elderly as TB's ZX10, I'd go for rear suspension failure. :)

P.S..Did you change the wicks in the lights. ;D ;)
TRs bike isnt old my z650 is old 1978 old v reg

I had one of those 2 yrs ago , great bike and sold for a profit  :)

The answer was: Steering.

It failed on notchy steering...  ...which has taken me ages to find, and even now, I'm not 100% convinced - with front wheel raised, pressing down on handlebars, a very faint notchiness around striaght ahead can be felt. In my mind, this would be the upper bearing, not the lower which MOTer said  :-\
