P0302 & P1700 - Any ideas, help please
« on: 08 October 2012, 20:20:12 »

Hi Folks

I have just got home after driving approximately 4 miles with the car spewing out smoke!!!

Until today it's been driving beautifully, I've changed the oil, filters, cleaned the EGR valve and even fitted a new rocker cover gasket.

I do have Genden Engine Check Pro which has given me the codes P0320, (Cylinder 2 Misfire detected) and P1700, Unknown.

The car when stationary juddered and initial pulling away produced copious amounts of smoke.

However the oil looks clean, not milky even though I've lost most of the coolant, (a new radiator was fitted a couple of weeks ago).

Does anyone have any ideas as just what might of caused this?

Many thanks

It's a 52 plate 2.2 Auto CD if that helps

Hi Rob

Would that also make the car judder when at a standstill?

It may well have been steam I guess.

Thanks

Although the misfire on pot 2 won't help (assuming initial post is typo, and is P0302)

Hi

Yes it was a typo, sorry.

This is driving me nuts as I've just spent a fortune on it.

How to check the Gearbox ECU?

Worth fixing the known issue first, then seeing what the gearbox holds...

Hi RobG

Sorry, forgot to mention, the temperature did not go into the red.

If that helps at all?

Interesting, mine is doing a similar thing, although not quite as bad (yet!)

Changed the radiator a couple of weeks ago as well, as that sprung a leak. Now I get a some white smoke out the back, occasionally large plumes of it, there is a miss fire when started for about 30secs, whether cold or hot and my coolant is going down by about half a litre every 200 miles. I have had the code for a misfire on cylinder 3 and also the gearbox fault!

I have checked all connections, HBV is not leaking etc. I can only assume it is the head gasket which has gone between the cylinder and the coolant channel as my oil is fine as well.

Very strange but will be watching this thread with eager eyes!

Misfire when cold and lots of steam does indicate head gasket :-[

Hi

The strange thing is, this did not happen until I was on my way home when the engine was already hot and had been running for about 20 or so minutes.

I have a friendly mechanic who has a head testing kit coming round later so I'll keep you up to date with the news.

Regards
