6 days to mot... damn airbag and horn
« on: 09 October 2012, 21:48:29 »

r reg omega estate 2.0

Right got an issue, airbag light is on and the horn doesn't work.. which will fail the motin 6 days

i tried a new fuse for horn, it blows instantly

tried a replacement round wire harness  as got told probably that, it still blows (squib iirc)

then tried to see if any fault codes, borrowed mates "My Naff Code Reader" which works on his 02 omega it sees what car it is but when searching faults says ignition off/ecu busy etc

where do i go from here, im so annoyed at her just spent £400 on tyres alignment etc :(

try checking the connections under the seats  for the air bag.
just wire a horn straight to a switch or spend about 15 pounds on a set of air horns

Horn's failed mate - sited under front passenger bumper.  Get one from a breaker - 5 minute job to change.

Does the horn fuse blow instantly as in as soon as you plug it in? If so, unlikely to be the horn itself, IMHO.

Horn and airbag both communicate to the steering wheel through a spiral connector, so I'd be checking if that's got mauled.

Worth getting it on a decent code reader first, though, just to confirm what the airbag problem is. You'll need one to reset it once it's fixed, too.

Actually, I tell a lie. IIRC, the negative end of the horn is switched, so could be a fault in the horn itself.

Pull the wiring connector off the horn and see if it still blows the fuse.

Had exactly the same symptoms with the horn on the Elite - fitted replacement horns and problem cured :y

Thats a problem, as time is against us. I'm only in Belchley 9-5, and this weekend I'm tied up with fixing the bike on Sat, and if that goes well, getting to Oxford meet on Sun.

borrowed differnt copy of software off mate and it read the codes!

However there was only one which was p0135 which i think is from when the mrs managed to make the exhaust into two pieces!

Cleared it anyway and airbag on still havent had chance swap horn which will do in morning but just wondering if any ideas?

If you unplug the horns and run a couple of wires from the wiring plug to a fuse of the correct rating, the current will be running to the fuse rather than the horns. Then when you push the horn button on the steering wheel the fuse will blow if the fault lies before the horns. If the fuse doesnt blow, the fault lies in the horns.Just my theory, but I think it would be worth a try. :y

Battery off, wait half an hour and the unplug the passenger seat plugs including the ones in the seat back, make sure that the plugs are free from dust and crud then reconnect them. Reconnect the battery, then switch on the ignition.

The light might go out if you're bloody lucky, but will probably need a Tech 2 to reset it. :y
