Lumpy LPG
« on: 16 October 2012, 14:01:54 »

Noticed that when running LPG it will run fine for varying periods of time and at all speeds, then with no warning it displays symptoms of missfiring, and runs almost like and engine running on governors, switch back to petrol and all is well, later back to LPG and again runs sweet then the same symptons kick in

What engine? Whats the type of LPG install is it?

Can you read any codes?

LPG does require a stronger spark, when were the plugs last changed?

Sounds to me like the vapouriser might not be getting enough coolant flow. How has it been plumbed in? Do you have any photos of the installation you could post?

Hmm. Can't see the Vapouriser yet.

Follow that thick black pipe that goes from the 4 way manifold, past the oil filler cap and it'll eventually go to the vapouriser (might be a filter in line first). Then you should find 3 thick coolant lines going into the vapouriser. The routing of those would be good to know.

Kev
Hope these are of more use, I have the big pipe you mentioned going in then coming out I have two pipes, one splits in a Y with one going to manifold, the other the left as indicated on the box on scuttle, the other larger pipe then joins a T connection that is leading back inot the header tank, only other connection is a copper pipe.  I would also add that sometimes this has cut out totally and usually at the most awkward moments.

Also check gas valve as this has a short pipe going into the vaporizer and another coming out of the vaporizer to the filter, a loose connection on valve or faulty valve switching on and off, your system looks if it has only 1 gas valve which would normally be under the bonnet close to the vaporizer, did not see vaporizer in picture hope this helps

I can't see a filter either, it should look like this:

Try following the feed from the tank into the engine bay  :y

Hopefully better shots showing vapouriser, couple of things I noticed this time, as part of the bundle of cables is the one with a blanking cap and the other is the 2 core cable that looks as if it has been cut coming from the ECU (LPG) as in picture, the only location I could find on the other end of the loom was the 2 shown that have crimps on them.  Would a faulty or not performing 100% thermostat affect operation of LPG?

This is my install on the 2.2:

The filter is here:

On your install, this looks like the vaporiser to me, the 2 fat pipes should be coolant flow, the smaller lower pipe should be LPG vapour, follow that, it should go through a filter. Unless it goes off straight to the injectors?  :-\
