Exhaust "rubbers"
« on: 20 October 2012, 18:20:45 »

Do one job and find another ... :(

Today I fitted the clips from RobG - many thanks :) and also did a small job I should have done a fair while back .. RobG and Shackeng will know what that was ... :)  it involved jacking the car up pretty high and crawling under a fair way.....

So while I'm under there I notice that all 4 of the large rubber support things for the centre section of the exhaust are pretty badly cracked, 2 of them look like they could give up at any time !! (the small ones at the back look fine)

Went down to 2 local exhaust places to procure replacements .. only to be told they are a "special order" item .. :(

So, best place to get these please ?? dealer or elsewhere ?? proper name for them ?? part number ?? or anything else I need to know !!!

I'd like to get this done very early this week as we're off to Northern Scotland at the end of the week and back 5 days later .....  a lot of miles that I don't want to be thinking the bloody things are going to break !! Probably won't .. but peace of mind etc etc ... :)

mmm so .. you think someone has been under there and changed them .... interesting ... very interesting ...  but stupid .. :)

I guess it'll be a quick trip into Swidnod Monday and a trawl around QwickFat and other places to see what I can get... if not then the stealers ... don't really have the time to get them on-line  :(

booger .. that's a tempting offer ... question is .. will these do another 1500 miles .. in a week .. :( I envisage them getting quite warm and a fair bit of vibration ... :(

I think I'll do the trawl around and contact you Monday night if I have no luck ... that OK with you ?

No probs  :y

It would be sooner, but I'm not going home for a couple of weeks. That said however, thinking as I type, I might be able to get them to you this week.

Depends on MotherT's plans.

I bought mine from a local factors over the counter, for about £1.50 each. Any of them that stock exhausts will have what you need.
Or you could try and scrounge them from a fast fit centre.

:D Special order? I have used these things many times from many exhaust centres....even dare I say it halfrauds...without any problem. As long as you take an old one, or draw and measure one then compare them you can't go wrong. Plus they are miles cheaper......

In the meantime a bit of garden wire looped around loosely will stop it falling if they do give way.  :y

Got mine from Vx for a few quid each ...... unbelievably, they had 'em all in stock! 8)

Given the timescale however, if you can't source replacements, then why not "let the train take the strain?" :o

Where we are going is a tad "out in the sticks" and we need transport .. so flying/train then involves the hassle of getting a hire car/returning the same ... which just eats up time and is always inconvenient... far easier, and more convenient to use the trusty miggy... :)

Plan of attack is now quite simple .... quick trawl around swidnod tomorrow to try and get the bits, including stealers if I have to.

If I get them .. change them  :)

If I don't get them ... backup the existing with some wire loops as suggested (thanks for the idea !!) and arrange to get the ones Tunnie has offered, then change them.

Seems quite simple ...... what can go wrong .. go wron....go wro ... g .....
