My Senator used to get driven pretty hard and didnt spend much time on motorways. It returned an average 24mpg,which is better than either of my 2.5 Omegas have returned.Performance is a hell of a lot better than a 2.5 Omega and probably similar to a 3.0 Omega. :y

I'd have thought the Senator would be allot more thirsty than the EcoTec engines.. If only the Senator engine could have had the sound of the Omega V6 and the strength of the straight 6 24v  ::)

Better engine in every way imo.Can you imagine what would have happened if Lotus tried putting a pair of turbos on a v6 and tuning it to 350 or so BHP ?  :)

I wonder how many Omega's have had a heart transplant from a 24v Senator...

I've had 3.0 24v auto and 3.0 12v auto Sennys. The 24v I never saw more than 6, yes 6 mpg from!!! It was used in a far away place (very cold place) for short journeys (choke probably never got a chance to turn off! And I'm sure there was a fault somewhere, still, it was like an absolute rocketship, oh yeah it had no exhaust for the most part and sounded absolutely amazing! If you stood next to it idling and spoke, your voice would begin to sound like an alien!! Hahaha! I digress, the 12v I got a consistent 16-17 around town.

IMHO the straight 6 sounded much nicer than the V6, and I doubt there's any significant difference in fuel consumption. Slightly older design maybe but still a modern-ish pent-roof 4 valve combustion chamber and without some of the daft emissions features of the V6 (i.e. burn more fuel to heat the cats up quicker).

Around town my 24 valve Senator used to do 23/24 mpg, whereas the Omega struggles to do 21/22mpg  :-\

Performance and MPG are broadly similar (although power delivery a little different due most likely to dual ram/multiram differences).

Straight 6  :-* I almost bought one at the time but rust put me off it , so i bought a carlton 2.0 cdx which was also a little better on fuel  8)
