..... and without some of the daft emissions features of the V6 (i.e. burn more fuel to heat the cats up quicker).

you've never owned a 24 vv Senator have you  ::) ::) The Senator used to hold onto revs  too when it was cold.  ;) ;)

It wasn't that I was referring to but SAI combined with a horribly rich mixture. We did have one in the family in the early 90's. ISTR it was significantly better on fuel than the V6 Volvos my dad had previously had, and much quicker and more refined. Probably ahead of its' time back then. Sadly never mine, although I nearly put in an offer when it was moved on with only 18k on the clock. :'(  ISTR that the insurance quote was a bit of a sticking point.  ::)

Although a boat anchor, the S6 did have a better character than the V6 IMHO. Smoother and that lovely growl. Might be looking through rose tinteds after all this time, though. ;)

I have had one 2.5 series 2 senny and a pair of 3.0 series two,s all twelve valve. the 2.5 was a manuel and returned high twenties driven hard. The 3.0 gave me no less than 20 around town. the Carlton GSI 12v was even better and a manual. On runs it gave me up to 37 and mid twenties in town. The pair of 24V diamond estates, both auto, I had gave 34/35 on a run but i didnt do any constant town use with either. My 2.5 diesel estste ,mig with auto box does overall consumption of 34.2 with no chip.  I also have an old series 1.5 senny manual with a carb and my run average was always 30. Hope this helps.

No significant difference in economy or performance between a 24v Senator and a 3 litre Omega.

Although it`s a personal taste I think the S6 sounds better than the V6, especially with the Jetex and decat combo  8)

Had the RB stainless exhaust and decat on my Senator, sounded lovely for the brief time it actually worked before it spat its cam chain...

I miss my old Senator, I much preferred the S6 engine noise & from maintenance point of view. No crappy cam covers, no belts to worry about, they should have continued to develop that as a dedicated RWD engine.

For me V6 has always been a bodge as it was designed for FWD & RWD, the S6 should have been left in RWD & got DBW & coil pack setup and fine tuned.

It was for the Lotus Carlton/Omega  ;) ;) ;) It used 3 coils from the US GM parts bin.  :y
