Been searching for info with regard to installing the engine and autobox from miggy into a replacement Omega
This is the same spec omega but with 25,000 extra mls on the clock
Near enough 3 yrs running for us
My initial query is can they be switched as one lump??
Im hopeing to do the most of this myself
Luckily I'm retired so have a fair amount of time 
And also I've got access to a proper engine lift and all equipment
If any kind member can help with the know how
I'd really appreciate any helpful info to get me going
And iff possible avoid any major pitfalls

yep,can go in or come out as one lump. Need to get them at quite an angle - the engine facing skyward and the gearbox facing the ground,then lower slowly and maneuvre as you go.
Will need two people ideally.

Didnt fancy trying it if it is't possibe
Suppose it will help to have the front end of engine bay reared up fairly high

Nothing to stop you cutting the slam panel and front crossmember of the breaker. Then undo the subframe bolts and the gearbox rear support and disconnect the gear selector, raise the body slightly and drag the whole thing, subframe and all, out.

As far as steering/suspension goes, only need to disconnect the track rods, brake lines/ABS Wiring and remove the top plates from the front struts.

Once engine out, it may be a good idea to renew the thrust washer, unless it's been done recently.

Removing the engine etc from the new car will have to be done without chopping the front end. If you can get the car high enough, or have access to a 2 post lift, fitting the engine/box from underneath on the subframe might be easier saves removing the bonnet and clearing the scuttle area...

Also whilst engine is out, things like the crankshaft sensor and hbv might be changed preventatively, with easy access.

Sounds like quite a project though good luck with it

For the sake of 25k, is it worth keeping the old lump as a spare...? Just in case the new cars engine has an issue.

Was thinking that. I'd keep as a spare but get the remaining wear oiut of the current engine and box first, unless they have obvious issues.

3rded... 25k is nothing on these if well cared for and if that's 3 years running for the OP then I can't see it making that much difference in the grand scheme Unless, as said, there are known issues

Does beg the question though, if old car is servicable enough to consider stripping, why not repair it

If front end, Dews at Brighouse furnished me with a new slam panel for less than £20, local dealer fitted and painted it for £300, including collecting/returning the car. Everything else bolts on. Could be a nice winter project

I think it was quite a major shunt... Airbags deployed IIRC

I'd be inclined to keep the spare and (perhaps) invest the time in giving the new motor a very good going over

Fair enough no harm then in chopping the front end up in order to free the front subframe with the engine etc

Its easier to remove them (thats a lie - refit them!) as a single combined joined unit.

I'm guessing the smashed car is Cat B if its had multiple airbag deployments.

90% of "abused" engine + transmissions will be fine after a change of fluids, couple of short oil changes, breather clean and a check of the cam cover gaskets and still go on for another 100K+. Seems little effort in comparison to changing engine and box, IMHO.

Yes, there might be some attachment to the bits from your old car, but that's not a good reason to do all that work unless you try the above and decide that for some reason the bits on the new car are not up to standard IMHO.

Hopefully everything should be a lot clearer after today
As i'm looking forward to bringing the replacement Miggy home
90+ml journey so that should tell a lot!!
She is an 03 3.2 Elite Estate as already said with the same spec
But with 25,000 more mls and a GID display instead of the CID one
She has Star Silver paint instead of Oyster which we much prefer so that's a plus
Whatever happens I think I'll be completeing a full stripoff of usefull parts
One fact that has surprised me in the past 14 days is how scarce 03 3.2 Elite Estates have been
Just can't wait to have an Omega in my life again

If you want to swap over the CID, remember to keep the other parts of the system with it, as they are paired.
