Ignition lock problem
« on: 02 November 2012, 19:05:49 »

Got in the Omega today put the key in ignition but it wouldnt turn no matter how much wiggling, pushing or pulling etc. I gave it.
Wiggled the steering wheel which put the steering lock on which made things worse if anything.
Tried the spare key,but that was just the same. Time to change the lock/barrel ? :-\

We had this problem some years ago with a 95 select, called the AA who forced it with the help of Mole Grips, never a further problem, though swmbo carried the Mole Grips in the car for some time.... :y :y

Funny you should say that.I squirted a bit off WD 40 in there earlier today and its working as smooth as silk now,so replacement will move further down the to do list now. :)

At least. :y ;D
I keep getting more upgrade bits (latest being ccr 2006 plus Bose gubbins, with rear shelf & blind) so the list never seems to get shorter. Need to change the stat first though. ::)

Flood it with WD40, if that works then the next step is to get rid of the stuff before the oil gets to work on the contacts, sounfs like crap in there, assuming the right key.

I had this problem once. Worth following the refurb procedure before it lets you down completely and you can't get the barrel out.

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90600.0

In my case, it was jamming because the part labelled "sprung pin"was sticking because the track it runs in in the barrel was burred. Gave it a polish up with a dremel and a good lube in addition to the other steps in the refurb and it's good as new now.
