I think it should be illegal to charge for air for tyres.Its a vital safety issue.

No but its air ffs. It was always free from every garage in the land to assist customers in completeing their journeys safely.Then the big supermarkets started selling petrol,then started selling air and pretty son they all did it.

It was the independents who started charging. The Supermarkets only started charging relatively recently.

Air itself is free, but the machines needed are bloody expensive, and frequently damaged/destroyed. Somebody has to pay for that. Would you rather they put up the cost of fuel to cover it? Thought not

Round this way it was the other way round. As I said,my heart bleeds for Tescos etc. I didnt realise just how hard up they were.
They can charge what they like for their fuel.My Cavalier never sees a fuel station and my omega is filled up at a workshop/LPG installer who doesnt have a forecourt never mind an airline.

I didnt know about the screenwash until someone mentioned it in this thread,but I bought 5 litres of it on special offer at Tescos last week for 75p iirc.
Personally I detest Tescos and their like and would love nothing more than to see them disappear. We shop there for some things due to the fact that they have distorted the retail market,and left most high streets empty by driving traditional shopkeepers out of business. Swmbo always takes pleasure though in reducing the amount shown on the till display by a considerable amount,by using a bit of intelligence and cunning.

One of their pumps buzzing away for a couple of minutes each day probably pays for it.

It would be nice if we went back to the days when the occasional motoring need was provided for as a thank you for spending a small fortune filling up, IMHO.

It would also be nice not to have to wait for someone to do their weekly shop before doing so.

Maybe they make their money by selling all the rubber that collects on their forecourts?

The fact remains, for us motorists, Tesco et al have kept costs down for us. Screenwash is a damn sight more expensive than 75p at my local, retarded autoparts shop. And petrol is a damn sight more expensive at my local retarded BP.

Trouble is, they have to sell other shite to make money, as most of that money we hand over for fuel goes to the government (and it matter not who is in power, be it Tory, Labour (new or old), Sribdems, UKIP, Raving Looneys (actually, hard to tell those last 2 apart sometimes), BNP, whatever)

If you fill the 6.8L(?) washer bottle then you need to use all of that and more during the winter, especially as it's probably the cheap crap that gels anyway, so it makes the 50p for doing tyre pressures and filling the screen wash seem like a bit of a bargain

Tescos drive small competitors out of business and then control prices,whether its food,petrol or anything else they sell.Dont kid yourself that they are doing anyone any favours. If they thought the market would stand the price of petrol being doubled tomorrow they would do it. They keep the price just below what would be viablefor smaller competitors to sell it cheaper than they do.

Nope it was 5L and I bought 4 of them. they were reduced and displayed at the front door,as a loss leader possibly ?
If my washers get blocked by crap I will just spend a few  minutes putting one of my spare sets on.

But the local butcher,baker,candlestick maker havent ruined the landscape of the country by appealling to the lowest common denominator and turned all the trads into shopping junkies who clog up the outskirts of every town at weekends & bank holidays by gathering like disciples at the huge shopping centres they have built.
