I was happy to change the engine not only because of what i was told but because i love the car and having 147k on the clock it would keep me going for many more years
If serviced properly (which excludes main dealers) it will do another 100k no problem at all.

Symptoms man. Symptoms...?

Coolant loss? Miss fires? Rough running? Poor starting? ... And even if you have all of those there's numerous possible causes that don't involve hg.

I've had nothing at all. I'm going to start to go where we get our work cars done plus I get 10% off

i would personally start by doing nothing

the experience here is that HGs on the V6 very rarely fail.  however it is common to get mayo in the filler neck, particularly in cold weather on short journeys.  it is nothing to worry about certianly nothing to spend money on.

best approach is to continue to use the car, watch for anything going wrong but chances are there is nothing wrong at all.  also the v6 is capable of getting well past 150k miles if looked after so don't worry

i think i do 14 miles to work and back 3 times a week and very little more, but if i work at our other base i will do 120 miles a shift. How doea the neck come out? Does it just unscrew?

You have to bend up a plastic tab that locks the neck to a bolt at its base. Then just twist it a quarter turn. But the mayo is nothing to worry about. Its just condensation at the top of the filler neck because its cooler up there. Very common at least here in norway because of the cold weather.

I bet the garage hasn't done a compression test or checked for exhaust gasses in the expansion tank  ???

Some oils are more prone to producing mayo up in the neck. Castrol sucks up moisture like blotting paper.
